it does have direct injection and I hope it was my thread that you saw
A D-4S (Direct injection 4-stroke Superior version) stoichiometric direct injection system, the world’s only automotive injection system to adopt two injectors per cylinder, is combined with Lexus’ Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing * intelligent). Combining the strengths of both port injection and direct injection, D-4S realises higher engine output and lower emissions.
though it's just yesterday that GSreg said no. i guess i should trust press release, but we all know how accurate lexus' press release is on the 08 gs...
I work for Lexus and I testdrove our 1st 460 that came in the other day. There is a noticeable difference between the power/tq of it and the 430.
The difference are, mirrors, headlights, new body line in rear bumper, trim pieces on the side of the front seats are "metal" looking, font on dash controls, shift gate is chrome. can't think of anymore for now.

Great...then I happily stand corrected; so long as there is an S in your engine designation it must be Direct Injection. Good luck with finding a way to liberate those extra 40 horses...

Maybe not, ajcsanders. I was in discussion with my dad earlier and he reminded me of the JDM vs. U.S. spec 2JZ-GTE. Both 2JZ-GTE designation but mechanical differences between the two. Not only different injectors but different cam profiles. I hope this is not the same situation. In any case, it is still quite fast.

Before the press release, every source said the GS460 wont be getting any Direct injection. Even lexus press didn't mention it, only for the GS350. However, looking at lexus website right now, they mention the GS460 has direct and port injection.
Either they really messed up their press release, or they like to hide information away from us
The Middle East version of the LS 460 has exactly 342 horses and it doesn't have Direct Injection - none of the Lexuses that come here do. That's what raised my suspicions in the first place.
I would still be happy with a 342 hp GS460 for '08 - my GS300 turns out 231 without Direct Injection.

Wow, suspicious indeed... But The placard definitely mentions 1UZ-FSE and D.P.I.
BTW, since you mentioned something about hill break assist. I noticed that with my GS350, whenever I standing up the hill waiting for a traffic light to turn green - I can take my foot of the break pedal and car stands still. I can only imagine how confusing it is for a driver behind me to see car still and no break light
And as it was mentioned before, we do also have those puddle lights under the side mirrors in ’07 GS350 models.
