Question No changes to rear? Plus what is a door switch plate

Also, what the heck is "Wood trim on door switch plate" that it refers to as one of the changes?

the GS460 having more power than the GS450h shouldn't be a big problem at all. The 'hybrid' name has that 'green' association with it. People who buy the GS450h are not going to look for all out performance. Hell most people who buy the GS450h probably thinks the hybrid system will only benefit in fuel economy and not performance. The GS460 would only be a problem if it generated MORE power while getting a whole lot better fuel economy. THEN the GS450h would be in trouble.

I think the 0-60 times for the 98-00 GS400 are pretty close to the new GS460 times.. For 42 more HP the car should have better times unless its over 4k pounds? One thing that isn't bad is the HP to torque numbers are relatively close so you should probably feel power all through the power band..

Here's a million dollar question to Lexus ??

Why no direct injection for the GS460 ??

Why not 380 hp ??

Looks like I might have to shop for a 550i or E550 in the future.

GS 350: Bi-xenon headlights and a REAL iPod interface would have made me happier, but otherwise I'm generally ok with this refresh. I'm hoping the interior updates are pleasing to me as well, along with resolution of the interior lighting and rattle issues. If so, 90% chance this car has me as a customer.

GS 460: Couldn't care less what they did or did not do with it. A V8 in this type of car just does not interest me.

nvm, i think i found one:

maybe lexus is purposefully derating the engine, possibly offering a gs500 next year (could happen look at the defunct es330 to es350 transition)...still bad news for this year nevertheless.

Why is everyone harking on the hp hp hp... hp isn't the end all means to performance, it's the combination of hp and torque. 5.0-5.5 sec. for 0-60 is nothing to blow off lightly. Think that a few years back, 4.9 sec 0-60 were in the exotic car ranges. Also, let's be honest, how often do you have to go from 0-60 in anything below 5 sec?

Finally, are you buying a Lexus for it's luxury, or you buying it to try to be better than Mercedes? I didn't buy my RX, or GS next summer, because I needed the numbers to show that it's better than Mercedes or BMW, I bought it because no matter what IT IS better than Mercedes and BMW.

It's official. The GS460 is dead on arrival.

Might as well make it a special order vehicle like the GS430.

Ahh drats. I was seriously considering a new car next year. Maybe I'll get the S5 or a 550.

The GS has always been (at least the 2nd gen) the sporty model for Lexus. It competes with the 5-series, e-class, A6, etc. When buyers shop and look at these cars, they'll see that the GS460 has the least power compared to the rivals. There aren't too many buyers out there that understands torque rating. All they think is more hp, the better. HP sells. Already there are plenty of people on here (even 1sicklex) are turned off by the hp ALONE. That says something.

When Lexus marketed the 3rd Gen GS as the "Performance Luxury Sedan", it's not wrong to expect some performance out of it. It's always better to be class leading than not.

Maybe the part they use for the direct injection could not fit in the GS. I hate to hear what Doug 999 has to say why Lexus didn't use the same engine as the LS.

I thought this car would be pushing 380 to 400hp Lexus is still behind the comp in the horsepower dept. 342 hp is all they can muster from the 4.6 for this car?

Why bother? Should just offer a "Lexus really doesn't care" package deal if you get an SC and a GS4.
