Default Experience needed - couple of rattles on new GS350

I have two rattles and am wondering if anyone else has encountered and fixed them.

1. A clicking sound from the center of the dash when I hit bump at high speeds. I thought it was the wiring harnesses from my vais sli install, but the installers wrapped them and still no luck.

2. A high pitched ringing rattle coming from the right side of the car. It feels like its behind my right ear when I am driving. It's faint and I can't tell what conditions cause it.

I have just come to expect rattles with Lexus, partly because the cars are otherwise so quiet that any little noise stands out. I can live with #2, but #1 is driving me nuts.

Otherwise, I love the car and am happy to be back in a GS after my experiment with an IS350.

A lot of us have experienced the center dash creek. It may be the plastic from the actual console housing. The dealer used the felt tape around all fittings in that area but it still does it.

As for the high pitched ringing, I had the same issue and it it turned out to be a spring in the sunroof. Check there. The dealer was able to fix that one.

Good luck.

I have the intermittent "popping" or "cracking" noise from the center dash. It comes and goes, so I'm not going to attempt to do anything with it at this time.

Leave it alone, and turn up the music!!!

From my personal experience, I have opened a can of worms, now rattles are everywhere!!!

Try to ignore the rattles, hopefully in 3-4 months all parts settle in and rattles might be gone for good...HOPEFULLY

I too have had a creaking/cracking noise coming from the center dash, specifically in between the nav screen and the CD slot. While I do not know (and neither does the dealership even when I showed them) where the noise is coming from, I do know what starts it.

The noises start when I have the HVAC on and switched to auto recir/fresh mode (not "full auto"). Within a few minutes of operation which is then amplified by a rough road, I get the creaking and cracking noise. However it will stop when I switch off the auto recir/fresh function. Interesting though that I do not get the creaking and cracking when the HVAC is in "full auto" mode.

When I took it to the dealership to have them look at it, they suggested that I leave the car with them and they will disassemble the dash and use felt tape in behind the plastic face plate(s) etc to see if that cures the problem. Not wanting what SLK-DDS has expenienced with new annoying noises, I decided not to go that route.

Sooooooooooo..... to keep my sanity, I will just note use the auto recir/fresh function, keeping the HVAC in full auto.

i have a clicking rattle from the right seatbelt area it seems.
it happens while going on rough roads. I consider it minor. I might fix it before the warranty is up in 3 years.

I've learned to be more tolerant of occasional clicks from the dashboard when running over bumps. What else did you expect? Bumps cause harsh jolts. No dashboard is gonna be silent in those conditions.

i got 700 miles on my car.

My noises from the nav unit are way too loud to be acceptible for a Lexus. Heck, our Chevy Tahoe didn't make that much noise on bumps.

The nav unit removes very easily assuming you have the tools and experience that the dealer does. You don't have to take apart the whole dash. Just a couple of pieced on the center console. A service rep from my dealer told me that he fixed a similar issue by insulating around the nav unit. I am going to give it a shot next time I go in.
