Question 2008 GS Features?

I've got a red 98 Lexus GS which I got in the first week or so that they came out. Sometime this summer I'm planning on giving my 98 to my son who will be going to college at the end of Aug. I plan on getting a new GS 350 at that time, although I could wait a little later by renting a car for a while if need be.

This makes me already to begin to wonder what the 2008 GS -- I want a 350 -- will have as far as new features. (Perhaps it will be the same as the 2007 so no need to wait.) The only thing that I'm guessing it might have is the HD-based Nav with the ability to store a couple of thousand songs as the latest LS now has. I think this might be a feature worth waiting for. Anyone think that is a possibility?

Also, any other guesses or inside info on the 2008 GS 350 feature set changes?

Thanks!

I'm a new Lexus owner. Got my GS 350 in Verdigris Mica last month.

My dealership said it's likely that all or most Lexus models may become hybrids in the next 2-3 years.

Also, look at the technology in the new LS. Other Lexus models may be getting some of the features that are in that car. Especially the Advanced Parking System.

Congrats on your GS 350 !! Your dealer is blowing hot air if he says most Lexus may become hybrids. Yes it is possible hybrids will be offered for a few models, not most...but they wont replace the regular gas engines....not this decade.

I dont expect to see the APS in most models either. It is only available on the LS Long wheelbase.....

As far as 08 changes, I dont think there will be many, perhaps some minor styling changes, or an MP3 input, perhaps the HD you mentioned, that would be nice.

I noticed this comment from an LS 460 owner which makes me question the value of the MP3 system as Lexus has it currently implemented.

"If you plan on downloading hundreds of CDs to the hard drive, this could prove to be a challenge. The car must be on to record music from a CD, and it is not practical to run the car battery without the engine running. After a while you will end up with a dead battery. Nor is it practical to run the engine just to record music. So basically you are left with adding music to your library while you are driving the car. To make things more complicated, you can not begin the record process while the car is driving, so you will need to coordinate selecting the CD and tracks you want to record at red lights and stop signs. Lexus would have been much better off simply allowing you to synchronize with either an Ipod or similar portable audio device that you load with music from a computer in your home. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they advertised the capability of adding 2,000 songs to the hard drive. This could take you thousands of miles of driving to accomplish, all while you are trying to drive safely and without distractions at the same time. I suspect many people will not bother with this and will just plug their Ipod into the auxiliary input jack."
