Telephone Override
I'm new to the forum, so I'm certain this has been addressed before, but is there ANY way to allow me to use the dial pad on the console while the car is moving. There has got to be an override out there somewhere.

hello, and welcome
there is no software hack on this override. but you do have two options:
(1) cut the speed sensing wire to the display to allow the display to leave the numbers active (not greyed-out). this is much easier than it sounds and it has no adverse effects. the speed sensor to the nav is a separate wire so you aren't touching that one at all. cost = $0-$1 for electrical tape
(2) try the ultimate lockpick solution if you don't want to cut wires. they are slowly releasing harnesses for various lexus models http://coastaletech.com/APPLICATION%20GUIDE.htm. they already have the 06 ls430, so if you have an 06 gs, it most likely will work (but they just haven't updated their website). they haven't quite made it yet to the new Gen 5 nav. cost = $149-$229 + ship/tax, depending on which lockpick you want to get (they have one that does nav override and i agree removal also)
both of these require taking apart the center shift gate wood trim and some other pieces to get behind the nav unit. there are pretty detailed instructions on this forum for doing that.
the best thing about doing the BT override is that incoming call #s are displayed. if you receive a call from someone who is not in the BT phonebook, then all you see is "incoming call" with no #. if you screen your calls, that forces you to pick up your handset to see who is calling.

If you will transfer phone numbers with person's names and assign them to the speed-dial buttons then, while moving, even when numbers are greyed-out names are staying visible and you can dial by name

Lexuslover....I was wondering, I have a non-nav non-ML gs300, I figure just cutting the speed sensor wire like you suggest should do the trick....this should be a single wire....which one, Thanks
