Well, if the IS"500" is already seen running all over places, there's no reason the mechanically identical GS can't do the same. Then again, the IS500 remains to be a rumor for now. Who know what engine's really in it?

Amen to that!

This stealth launch of the new GS 350 and GS 460/500/whatever is driving me nuts!

Of course, it's nothing new. Lexus did the same thing with the GS 430 introduction in 2001. Lots of noise and hoopla about the LS 430 launch but relatively quiet about the new GS. Who knows, maybe Lexus will surprise us with a really powerful V8 GS sometime before 2010...

For me, the GS350 is the sweet spot and the one I want, so I guess it doesn't matter even if they are working on a V12 GS650 for a surprise release next year.

Drove a 350 Saturday at Longo. Damn it was responsive and virtually the same price as my 300. Word from the salesman is that the 460 is due between summer and fall 2007. He was saying something about a LFA or LFH is about to drop soon and the SC is going to be discontinued. Probably not breaking news.

Default US Open

I was hoping to see the launch of the GS460 now that the US Open is over. After watching them give away a GS450h to the winner it seems apparent that for publicity they would want to give away the top of the line GS AND a hybrid. It wouldn't have the same impact to give away a hybrid if it was upstaged by the new V8. It wouldn't have the same impact to give away the new V8 when all the hype is on hybrids either.

Ok Lexus, prove me right and launch the GS460 now!

Test drove the GS350 today, very smooth and responsive. More horsepower, better mileage, and less expensive than the GS430 ($51K vs $58K fully equipped), so who would want to buy a GS430? If the GS460 does become reality, what will become of the GS450h? GS600h? We can keep on dreaming.

Possibly could fit its only 0.3 L larger than the GS430.

I wouldnt mind seeing the a GS600h, something like that would really do a number on a BMW M5 or any other car for a matter of fact.

LS600h is a hybrid so pulling it's gas engine would probably be challenging because the transmission is tied into both the gas and electric engines.

Pulling the entire gas and electric drivetrain and tranny and trying to fit it in a GS would be a nightmare I suspect as the cars are different lengths/chassis, etc.

I am pretty sure the 4.6 and 5.0 are both physically identical in terms of exterior dimensions and packaging sizes. They likely just lengthened the stroke and bored out the cylinder walls a bit more (if there was room) which would not require any real change to the exterior size of the motor.

When I put my 2007 GS350 in ECT PWR mode, I'm launched over the speed limit in a hurry. I'm already looking behind in my rearview mirror and ahead in the distance for police. A 460 seems more than necessary to me.

........ the engine displacement is only 0.3L more, but it's a completely different engine design
