WHY???
The wood steering wheel looks great. I would have gotten the cover in grey.

Maybe it is a US thing - but we tend to multi-task while driving.

I personally prefer the feel of an all leather steering wheel to the GS's wheel. However, I think the GS's wood steering wheel looks great and luxurious, and I see this more and more on premium luxury cars. I wish there would have been an all leather option.

My previous Mercedes' had leather steering wheels. The SLK had leather on the underside of the wheel and wood on the outside, so it gave a nice leather feel underneath but had the luxuriuous wood look on the outside. However, I still preferred all leather.

My GS's wood does get warm in the sun, but I'm not planning on covering it.

I live in hot FL and I love my wood wheel. my ES has leather and my my GS has the wood. I actually try to keep my hands on the wood part when I'm driving. It's not slippery or hot to me. Driving with the knee is a little tougher, that's my only complaint with wood wheel.

BTW- that sew on cover would be much less offensive in black or grey.

The fact is you drive with this thing called a steering wheel and making it "look good" as opposed to functional is as silly as the iDrive.
Make it an option Lexus!
I have a wood wheel and love it!
In my time on CL, I've pretty much learned that Doug more than less just hates his GS period.

am I wrong?

Hate? No - in love with? No way! Chuck, the wood steering wheel is silly. It IS slippery (much more so than leather as any engineer will tell ya), and for a critical part of the car, I just don't see the logic in it. It is similar to putting ArmorAll on your gas and brake pedals.

And putting driving gloves on? That's funny. Poser any one?

PS - Tinting is illegal in IL

i don't find it slippery for some reason - i actually like the feel of the grip. the leather is beautiful too, but it gets dirty and greasy looking over time and i hate that.

maybe wood wheels are not for sportster-driver types, but i usually don't race the car or go 75 into turns.

or maybe you wear too much hand lotion . . . ?

Get one to match the interior, that looks horrible, IMO

Unless you put leather conditioner on your hands and then drive with a leather steering wheel - you take care of two things at once!
