Default Tires

Hi,

What kinds of tires are being used in the new GS430 and GS300? Does anyone have the all-seasons- RF's?

My GS300 came with Yokahama Advan A10Bs. 225/50VR17. These are High Performance Summer Tires. The tread pattern is pretty cool looking and the profile looks good also. Standard in the Southeast are either these tires or a Dunlop equivalent. I have driven a GS300 with the Dunlops and if I remember correctly, they were a tad better riding but didn't handle as good. If anyone with a GS300 has the Dunlops please tell us the model info. And what you think of them.

I have checked Tire Rack and Yokohama's websites. No reference to these tires (Advan A10B). I'm speculating that they are OEM spec'd by Lexus. I'm curious to find out more about these (how they rate) when they are listed for sale on Tire Rack. Hopefully, they will. I'd also like to know how much they cost.

Note that Lexus recommends 33psi for front and backtires - just a bit higher than most cars. The dealer delivered to me at 35psi (cold). I need to bleed off some pressure to see how the tires perform at correct inflation. At 35 they can be a bit harsh on bumps. They stick like glue however.

My gs 300, purchased in SoCal, came with Dunlop SP Sport 2050 225.50.17 and there were several warnings on the car (tags) that the tire life is expected to be less than 20,000 miles. They seem to ride firm for an "average" profile tire. They have a flange shield, which will is a sidewall that is pertrudes out just above the bead to protect the wheel.

So far so good...

Thanks for the info. I checked dunloptire.com and Tirerack.com and this exact model is not listed. I'm guessing that Lexus had Dunlop and Yokohama each make a custom variant for the GS300. I did find a SP Sport 2000E on Dunlop's site. Maybe that is close. I know what you mean about the extra large radius where the tire meets the wheel. That is part of what makes the sidewall so stiff and it reduces sidewall roll-over while cornering.

My car had a similar warning about the life expectancy of the tires when it arrived. My dealer removed the sticker at prep. I drive in a "spirited" way and I still usually get good life out of my tires (40k miles). I wonder if the compound on these tires is really that soft?

On my 01 GS300 I replaced the original wet-noodle Turanza EL30s with Turanza LS-V's and I plus'd them up to 225/55 (in 01 they were stock 215/60). Even though the name is similar the Turanza LS-Vs are quite a nice tire. It felt like a different car after the new rubber was added. I had another 15k miles to go when I sold the car and I had already put 45k miles on them.

Tires make a world of difference on any car, IMO.

Cool

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S would be a good replacement tire in the 225 50 17 (W rated) size down the road.

Default GS430 all season RF's taken off

I just put a set of 18" Michelin Pilot Sport Z rated AS on my customer's GS430 that he's picking up tonight. I haven't had a chance to drive on them yet. These are good rain tires. OK in snow and of course good in dry. When I test drove the AWD GS300 with Bridgestone Potenza 18" summer runflats I was impressed and would recommend these to those in warmer climates. They were the best tire combination I've driven so far. We are getting Dunlop 5000 Sport RF's up here on the 430's. I need to check the 300's again after reading your post Sandman. Yokohamas would have been my first choice so you are lucky they came OEM.
