I'm not much of a smoker, nor do I ever plan to be.
So I thought it might be a good place to install a USB plug on my 2008 GS350.
I already have a Grom lite unit in my car so it was just a matter of disassembly, removal of the cigarette lighter and the installation of a female to female USB plug.
No drilling required at all, the USB plug screwed right into the hole where the cigarette lighter used to go.
I was a barbarian and destroyed the cigarette lighter trying to figure out how to remove it. (don't really need it anymore but...)
So you don't have to kill yours, there is a small nut and a larger ring nut that both come off and the whole thing comes right apart.
Tucked all the wires in and here is the final result.
A nice tidy USB plug hidden away until you need it for apple car play and charging at the same time.

Hey that’s super cool! I’ve had a similar idea for awhile, about moving the USB port out of the back bottom of the armrest compartment to where the cigarette lighter is, but have never gotten beyond thinking about it. Nicely done, and this will be helpful if I ever actually do it.
