Default Air Conditioned Front Seats

Hi everyone... I just purchased a 2006 GS430. I noticed the front seats are perforated with small holes for ventilation. The owner's manual says the front seats are "heated and ventilated." And then it goes into great detail to explain that you turn the control dials (beneath the arm-rest) to the right for heating (a scale from 0 to 3 is on the dial). For cooling, you turn the same ***** to the left.

On my car, the **** only turns to the right for heat -- contradicting what's published in the manual.

Now, my 2005 Avalon Limited has heated and Air Conditioned front seats. The controls are similar to my Lexus. But I bought the Avalon in the U.S.

Question: Does anyone know if my Lexus GS430 has air conditioned seats? I live in Canada. This is a Canadian model... for example ... the speedometer, odometer, etc are all metric, not U.S. measurements.

@DeeBop I believe the Canadian spec had ventilated seats available, however I don't know if it was available for the 2006 model year. The perforated leather would suggest it should have at least been available. I mean, even the entry level ES model had ventilated seats before 2006 in the U.S. Do the dials show blue and red hashes near them? The blue hashes would indicated you have the "cooling" function. Have you tried using a little more "persuasion" to turn the dials to cooling? Perhaps, they weren't used much and have gotten a bit stuck. Of course, it may just not have that option.

Thanks for your help, TopNotch. It's much appreciated. The dials in my Lexus only show red (no blue). I tried giving the dial a little extra "nudge" to no avail. After reading your thorough explanation (thanks again) it seems my seats have heat only -- and no air-conditioning. I can only hope some air is circulating all the time -- even when the heat dial is in the off position.

On a personal note ...I used to live in Southwest Michigan -- and for years worked in Michigan City, Indiana.

All my best,

FYI, they are ventilated seats not Air conditioned. Not all GS had ventilation seats. The LS and LX of this time has Air conditioned seats. I'm pretty sure the Avalon has ventilation seats, not ac, as well.
