Default Navigation retrofit with a twist

Hello all,
I would like to upgrade my GS with an up to date head unit with Apple Car Play. I was thinking that I would buy old Navigation unit and replace the old touchscreen with the new Apple Car Play unit. My concern right now is, if it would be possible to make all the buttons work.
Or atleast the climate and sound buttons work so I can still change volume with the original **** and operate AC unit as if it was stock.

Hello,

While it is possible, you will have to write your own software and interface adjusted to the specific screen size of the Multivision, you will have to have a pretty hefty skill level to pull something like that off.

That said, you can replace Multivision screen with a regular climate control and generic 2DIN head unit, even if it will make that car a lot more conventional than it was. Here is another option that follows a very similar idea to yours, even if the execution is lagging at best.. I would honestly keep a factory system, but as long as none of the factory systems are cut or sacrificed, it won't be a problem to revert back.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

On Facebook there is a guy who used this Vline plug-and-play for his GS with Navigation. It keeps everything stock and replaces the CD button. It works really well and has apple car play with the addition of a backup camera if you want. A bit expensive but it's a good deal without having to deal with the annoying part of having to bypass or run all your wiring because of the ML sound system.

I have the Vline in my factory navigation. It's pretty good so far.

We had some users that replaced the Lexus stereo to the other Lexus stereo of newer gen, that has factory nav. And then they added the VLine VL2 system for CarPlay, and it worked well for them. What year is your GS? Does it have factory nav?
