Default A/C Question Please help

A week ago my air in my 98 GS 400 stoped blowing cold. The day before it was blowing cold and the next it was not. I took it to Lexus and they checked the A/C lines by filling them with dye. (thats what they told me) and they said that they would call me later.

The next day I received a call from Lexus telling me that my evaporator was leaking and needed to be replaced. The cost would be $1800 because they needed to remove my whole dash to get to it.

I told them not to fix the A/C and that I would come and get it. When I picked the car up the first thing that I noticed was that the A/C was blowing cold, really cold. ( I thought to my self did they fix it)

The next day I turned the A/C on and it smelled like mold for about 30 sec and then ran fine. Now every time I turn the A/C on it blows cold but smells like mold for the first 30 sec.

Why does my A/C smell

One other note. Last night I took my car to Toyota just to see what they would give me for a trade in on a new car. The dealer said that he could only give me 12,500 because not too many people want the bling bling look and he would have a hard time selling it.

I have a silver 98 GS 400 with 17" stock silver wheels and black interior. The car has 74,000 and is in great condition it has had all of the Lexus service except the new A/C.

Thanks,
Chris

Time to replace your airfilter. Its easy as cake man. DIY for cheap. What the dealer told you was a lie, if your car is stock then it has no ''bling bling''.

Thanks for the tips on the cabin filter. I checked the filter and it was a little dirty but it doesnt smell like mold. I wonder if there is mold on or around the blower fan.

Like I said in my first post I have never had a problem with the A/C unit smelling but after I picked it up from the Lexus dealer the smell was there.

Does anyone know if when the dealer does a dye test on the A/C system if the dye has a smell? I dont know Im just throwing it out there.

Thanks for all of your help,
Chris
