Hi i have just purchased myself a 2001 gs 430 with a leaking radiator that needs to be replaced. I planned on doing this myself and I ordered a Denso radiator from amazon. It looked pretty straight forward getting done on the ls 430s and gs400s. But I have couple questions as i am not sure of couple things.
1. Is the radiator replacement for the gs 430 the same as the ls430s or the gs400?
2. Is there anything else i should replace while im replacing the radiator that would be convenient for me?
3. Anything in particular I should be careful for?
If you guys can give me some answers that would be super helpful!!
It would be the same process as a GS400. Other things to consider are the upper and lower radiator hoses. Feel them to see if they are soft or squishy. If the radiator is old enough to have failed, the hoses are likely just as old. I like running transmission coolers on my automatics. Would be a good time to install one. Just mentioning it in case you'd be interested in that sort of thing. Not sure what your plans are for the car. Check the cap, probably should replace it if the radiator doesn't come with one. If you see any sludgy junk in the radiator or reservoir, consider replacing the thermostat to clear the system of blockages. With the radiator and thermostat out, you can get a good flush through the engine with a garden hose.
Thank you for your reply! I searched the radiator hoses and the aftermarkets are so much cheaper than OEM but is it a bad idea to get aftermarket radiator hoses?
Also how do you run the transmission coolers? Thank you again!
You are going to find a good spot for it. A lot of people that installed transmission coolers install them on the upper or lower passenger side of the radiator. Just google it up on what is best location. I did mne on the lower passenger side of the radiator. Hope that helps.
Its actually in front of the condenser that it fits and attaches to. Just look up a kit on EBay. I’m running a $25 Hayden unit. It’s not something you have to do. Just good for trans life. It’s a pretty self explanatory install.
