VVTi 2nd O-Ring
I did not find much here regarding my oil leak coming from my VVTi Cam Gear, but these three videos were helpful.I intend to replace the O-Ring that all three videos talk about when I get the replacement O-Ring on Monday, but when I took everything apart today, I found what appears to be a 2nd O-Ring that is broken at an odd angle. That no one even talks about.
2nd O-Ring in the VVTi Cam Gear?
Is this suppose to have the angled break?
It seems pretty stiff (but so does the O-Ring I am replacing) is this suppose to also be a Viton O-Ring?
Has anyone ever seen this?
Is it a problem and should also be replaced?

I heard back from the guys at Power Dynamix in Texas.
They are the ones who did the Jeff's Garage Video linked above.

So, if anyone else is curious in the future, this is not an O-Ring and does not need to be replaced.

Don't mess with the second seal. It's actually not an o-ring.
It's called a split seal and it's made of a harder material.
So just don't mess with it.
Put it back in the groove as it was.
So, if anyone else is curious in the future, this is not an O-Ring and does not need to be replaced.

Glad I could help - I agree that for how common this problem is and how easy it is to repair I too am shocked more comments had not been made about the split seal.
