Power Steering Reservoir Replacement
'98 GS400 - Changed out the PS pump the other day. While waiting for some small parts to button it back up I decided to clean the reservoir today. A bunch of large flakes came out and when I looked inside I noticed the screen was almost completely deteriorated inside. Ended up just ordering a new lexus unit but was wondering, what are other people doing when they end up needing a new reservoir? They are crazy expensive, I paid $175. Just to compare, thats almost 3x the cost of a genuine Porsche or BMW PS reservoir. I couldn't find a single aftermarket replacement, either. Is it possible to open these up and just replace the screen?

I broke the nipple some years ago and I too opted to get a new one from Lexus. Later I kicked myself for not searching through salvage yards. It was my mistake and my wife's car, but I could have saved some $$.

I would just look for another used one. I always recommend adding a Magna Pure inline magnetic power steering filter to help prevent extra wear on the power steering system.
