Default Honda fixing my car

Honda Service center is replacing shift solenoid C, and a speed sensor on my car. (I live in the middle of nowhere, no close lexus dealer)
Codes are P0980, and P0717.

I brought my own solenoid, part number 35230-30010.
This is the Automatic Transmission, 3 way, no. 2 solenoid it is the S3 solenoid.

They are telling me i brought the wrong solenoid, because it says number 2, i believe i brought them the right part.

They are charging me 400$ to buy a brand new solenoid, the 'correct' one from lexus.

I am looking directly at lexus's service manual, I dont see how i could be wrong here. Does anyone know if i am? This is all costing me 1000 dollars and I'm horribly concerned because I am so sure I brought them the right solenoid.

I am concerned about my car, I am concerned about paying all this money if there not using the correct solenoid.

This whole transmission issue has been a nightmare for my 2gs, I just want it fixed

I guess what im trying to ask, is if they put Solenoid A in, and it doesent work. Could they put my solenoid in, and then not charge for me the solenoid they charged me 400$ for because the mistake was on there end.

Is there a Toyota shop nearby? I would take it to someone who knows the vehicle. You mentioned the Lexus dealer was too far so maybe a Toyota shop or someone who works on them.

They can't force you to agree to a repair you don't want. But they're correct in saying that if the part you brought them doesn't solve the problem, there's no reason you shouldn't have to pay if you want them to fix it correctly. Also consider that if they are telling you that their solution will fix the problem, you may be able to hold them to that. Presumably, they haven't pulled their diagnosis out of thin air. Have they actually tested all the solenoids on your vehicle?

What ever you do, don't let them put a VTEC solenoid in your transmission . You do not have any local transmission repair shops in your area?

I do not have any local transmission shops in my area.

I understand that if the part I brought them wont fix it, I have to pay for them to buy a new solenoid that works, obviously. I just want them to try it with mine first, but I dont think theyl do it without charging me double. I dont even think they have dropped the pan yet, I think they just got the code, and determined they need to replace solenoid C, and the solenoid they made me pay for, is Solenoid A, but they claim it is the correct part. They will give me a 12,000 mile warranty on the parts, but claim there is no guarentee that it will be fixed.

My question is.

1) Could replacing it with the solenoid there buying (35240-30020) fix the problem even though the car has Code P0980/

2) If it does not work, will I still have to pay for the solenoid they ordered, and can they just put in the solenoid i brought them originally, 35230-30010.

You could tell them you will be responsible for the repair if it doesn't work (that is, if they have to drop the pan again). I would think they can return their part if yours fixes the problem.

You need to find an indy who knows these cars not someone who is forcing you to use their solution. They should put in the part you want not what they think will (or will not) work.

Well it certainly behooves a shop to advise their customer if they think the customer is making a mistake. That said, if the customer insists on having work done that the shop think won't fix the issue, I don't see the advantage in turning away the customer- they are paying after all. As long as the customer accepts that they will have to pay for the correct work (and the incorrect work) if it turns out the mistake was their own. No skin off the shop's back.
