GS 400 Options List
Hey everyone,
I'm a video producer that focuses mostly on older luxury cars. We've filmed a bunch of BMWs and Mercedes over the past couple years and are now working on Lexus. We had the opportunity to film a Canadian market 98 GS 400 over the weekend and are putting together the video now. I've found out quite a lot about this generation from this forum in terms of common issues, but now I'm looking for information about what options would have been available throughout the production run, specifically for the North American market. I've found the wood steering wheel and full wood shift ****, and I was told that Navigation was standard on US-spec GS 400s, but wasn't available at all in Canada. I just want to confirm if that's true, and know about any other factory options that were available to be able to include in the video.
Thanks in advance!

The steering wheel part is actually the best bit of information you could have given me! I just double-checked some of the images we used from Toyota's press site that they labeled as 1998 GS 300_400 that showed the wood steering wheel, I just grabbed it and didn't give it much thought since it looked about right, but now that you've mentioned that I've gone back and realized the photo has to be from an LS and it's been mislabeled on their part. Thanks! Toyota has information for the 2003 GS and newer, so I do see some information about the options list, including navigation so they must have added it by then, but still not sure when it would have become available in Canada.

I still have my 2000 GS 400 and while it had the Nakamichi audio system, it did not have Nav - which was perfect for me, since I 'binned the entire system and went with a custom set-up. Mine is a little unusual since it's Spectra Blue with grey interior (most blue were GS 300s and had tan interiors), auto-leveling HID lights, and heated seats. I even have the original window sticker for it someplace.
1998-2000 GS 400s also had e-shift on the steering wheel, which disappeared with the introduction of the 2001 GS 430 with the 4.3L V8. I actually use the e-shift almost every time I drive the car (which, admittedly, isn't very often these days).

Cali is full of odd options picked for the GS. My car was originally purchased in LA, 2000 SBM Lexus GS400 with grey interior, no moonroof, no heated seats and pioneer audio.
