Default Shifter cover slide broken ... need pointer(s)

There is a gaping hole near the shifter base. It is the sliding plastic piece that moves with the shift lever.

I traced the part
https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/...975-30240.html

There are DIY that lead me deep enough to what looks like one layer above the broken part.

Has any one replaced the part? Do I hope that I can simply remove the next layer without taking the shifter out.

Help.

You will have to remove the "PRNDL" cover, which is held on by 4 tabs. The piece you are looking to replace is attached, but underneath that cover.

Mine broke too, but I just left it. Don't think I really need it... do I?

Exactly .. but what does it take to get underneath?

Two reasons I would like to fix it:
1. You can drop something in there.
2. If the pieces turn around, they may prevent shifting ,.. then I will have to resort to breaking it up further (more than 2 pieces and the tiny pieces can get in places you dont want.

Reasons not to fix it:
Process is too elaborate
Price of the part (which is not too much)

post # 6 shows it removed

We are all humans, but I did find the link to change the bulbs/leds, but not how to go one step further.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...or-bulb-9.html shows one more level I need to traverse.

Incidentally the link you posted does not work.

Salim, I'm not trying to be a smart *** or confrontational but where is there to wing? I clearly show the black slider part off in those posts...

I am grateful for the guidance. Once the tabs are pulled out, a layer comes off. There is yet one more layer before I get to the slider. I think I am over thinking the problem ... once I get there, it would be obvious to figure it out.

Salim

ps: It just could be that picture sandwiched between step 6 and step7 , is where the slider is. My mistake as I thought that I need to go one more layer.

so on post # 4 after steps 1-5 you will remove the black shifter cover and that piece you want to replace should literally be laying on the top with you to see and it just comes off IIRC

no worries.... if you get a popping, hard to shift issue after changing it go back and read my solution to it from the thread I posted

Installed the part last night. The old one was too crisp ... no wonder it broke off. Had to go back and twist the shifter another 180 degrees before Mrs could spot my mistake.

Thank you sakataj.
