Hey CL I just bought a 98 GS400 that came with aftermarket HID headlights and also had the factory ballast in the trunk. So my dilemma is since they have aftermarket HIDs jump wired in with splice connectors that took the driving lights out the loop because they're not using a plug an play type setup and I want the driving lights back. so should I just buy the correct type of plug and play setup thus maybe giving me my DRLs back or try and see if the factory ballasts work? I'm thinking they went aftermarket because at the time stock replacement bulbs from a parts house were 100 bucks. Any and all advice would be very much appreciated.

Are they factory HID reflectors or halogen reflectors?

Okay so this sounds like aftermarket bulbs & ballast on factory HID headlights - correct?

And the driving lights you are talking about are the DRL (daytime running light)?

If so the DRL is the high beam at reduced voltage. Maybe I am missing something here but why would splicing into the low beam wiring disable the high beam? Sounds odd. I would uninstall whatever they did and start fresh with a simple plug-n-play HID kit.

If you want the factory ballast back I would test it before starting the install. Or test and sell it on eBay.
