Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 98 GS300, which has had it's engine swapped to a later model. I'm getting the common limp mode issue even though i've reset the ecu, checked resistances etc

Here are some inconsistencies:
- Using the old ECU (89661-3A440)
- Can't reset the ECU by holding down the accelerator pedal
- Throws no CEL

OT issue: Gear selector and ash tray lights don't work

 

All 98 GS were VVTI. Someone would have had to make it non VVTI. Are you sure?

 

OH... I feel real stupid right now.

I assumed the 98-00 were non VVTi and the 01-~05 were VVTi. In that case, i'll edit my initial post so it makes sense.

 

You're fine. It makes sense. Toyota did the VVTI engines in 2000 but Lexus got them in 98.

More or less any 98-05 GS is the same assuming same engine. The v8 went from 4L to 4.3L but the GS300 stayed the same. I am sure some minor calibration changes. But else the same.
