Default Ashtray Removal

Can anyone guide me through the removal of the Ashtray section from the dash of a 98 GS with nav.

First you open the ashtray and remove the actual tray itself then you just pull it out straight back and that's it

Yes its held in place with clips....btw...if you want to remove the NAV section (centerpiece)..you will have to remove the top vent piece as well that has the center hazard button.

It is ALSO held in with clips. Just get a good grip and pull...don't use a screwdriver to pry..you'll leave marks on the dash or the piece itself...hold on tight to piece...and PULL...it will come out. Once it begins to come out, you'll have to remove the wiring clip that plugs into the hazard lights button.

Once you have removed both top and bottom (ashtray) pieces....there are four bolts that hold the NAV unit centerpiece in place. Remove these and the NAV can come out towards you. There are also a few wiring hardnesses that be to be unclipped for you to completely disconnect the unit from the car.

Good luck.
