Cool Coolant hose

I just noticed the small hose that connects to the coolant cap, came off and is damaged. It appears it moved from it's normal position somehow and it was sliced into the by turning belts on the pulley. Anyway, I can't get it back into where it's supposed to connect to because I can't see, plus it's not good anymore because it has a slice towards the top from the pulley belts rubbing on it for a while it seems. How important is it that this hose be replaced, and reconnected where it belongs? I can probably do that tomorrow or so, but will need to drive before then? Any issues with this? I guess I have been driving with the hose disconnected and damaged for a while, but have not had any issues that I could notice.

Thanks,
Rock
