Default 99 gs300 mass air problems

I recently bought a 99 gs300 and I'm having problems with the mass air flow sensor the car was wrecked and the air box was crushed and not usable the car will run fine when its first started then will die after a few mintues of driving its dies and won't start however if you unplug the mass it runs and drives the car is throwing s code p0100 so I bought a new mass and same problem the mass is wide open with no filter or tube coming off of it would this cause it to not run getting to much air and causing the car to flood or not get enough fuel any help would be much appreciated

I think you know the answer to this....buy an airbox assembly. Just search the classified section. Not smart to run a car without a filter anyway.

The GS 400 has a hot wire maf. The GS 300 has a vortex maf. If basically works by measuring the turbulence in the air stream. When you don't have an airbox assembly, you're messing up the flow pattern of the airstream. It may not fix your problem completely, but I would start there. You could probably ghetto rig an autozone cone filter on it.

Yes, its probably too much air that's causing to die out. Adding a cone filter will regulate it. I'd prefer the oem with paper filter though....engine feels better.
