FYI, GS300 is powered by straight 6 instead of a V6 as you've mentioned. I would go for GS300 b/c it's better in gas, cheaper to maintain and lower in insurance coverage. If you don't have family to support and house to payoff, I'ld opt for a GS430 and dun some upgrading.

If u were going to go with crazy mods, then get a 300. There are more performance parts out there for that model.
If ur jus gonna put basic mods...then get the 400, which is what I have. I love that car to death. I jus wish they had more performance parts for it.

I do agree with u on the LS cuz the LS is higher price. My statement says ( the GS is ONE OF THE MOST RELIABLE CAR) but not the only one that is the most reliable ones. I don't know if u own a GS400 or not but from my end, the GS400 is my favorite car I've ever own.

Yeah I own a gs400 and an ls400 I like driving the gs400 better but the ls400 is better built. I have a first gen ls400 (1992) and its unbelievable all the trouble they went through. One example, every connector in the interior has foam tape around it so it won't rattle, there are no exposed screws, most panels are screwed down rather than using clips, on and on it goes. No rattles on that baby, unlike the gs400. Another example, the cover for the sun roof is nice and heavy and there is friction in the entire slide length therefore no rattles., on the gs the cover is thinner and they only put friction on the front. On the ls they cover the rubber seals on the door with a cloth material to reduce squeaks and rattles. One thing that they thought was better was the leather because it's real thick but in reality it tends to dry and split easier and it is not as comfortable. My bet is that they were not making much if any money in the first 3years of Lexus. Once they got a reputation the jacked up the price and lowered the quality. Even the engine, though not nearly as powerfull, was way overbuilt so you can add boost or whatever and not worry about its strength.

In 1998 the lexus gs4 was the fastest sedan in the world. In 2012 my car now has 300k miles on it and no problems. Get the gs4.

Quite the contrary, actually. The LS400 was thousands cheaper than the Mercedes, Jaguar, and BMW equivalent which convinced many to make the switch, not to mention Lexus's approach with customer service. Sales numbers were much higher than predicted.

Lexus's sales collapsed in 1994. Not only was the new 1995 LS400 marginally better than the previous year's model, in 1995 a tariff was placed on japanese luxury cars. The LS was supposed to sell for six figures, although Toyota decided to lower the price. They had to cut corners somewhere, or else they'd be digging themselves a grave.

You are confirming what I said and you say it's the contrary? I did not say sales orders weren't higher than predicted I said "I bet they lost money on each car they sold", do you understand the difference?

Looks as though I misinterpreted what you wrote. My apologies.

LS400 was the Lexus introduction to this soil and many others. Much thought was put into it as Lexus was trying to establish themselves amongst the elite. But when you compare the LS to the GS, its not a very fair comparison as each car was marketed to different classes. LS is the flagship and the GS is a step below it. Much like the S class and the E class

I've got a GS300 and a buddy's got a GS400 and I've driven both of them plenty. If comfort is your prime concern, either GS would suffice. If your going to keep your car stock and foresee no engine or power mods in the future, then take the GS400. Trust me, you'll be happy. The GS300 feels underpowered compared to the GS400. The extra torque of the GS400 will serve you well, whether its city or highway use. In case your wondering why I went with the GS300 instead, i will be swapping in a 2jz-gte turbo engine next year to keep the power bug happy.

If all you need is a comfortable vehicle to get you from point A - point B, pick whichever vehicle has got lower miles and better options. Hope this helps.

I use to own a 2000 ls400 and they better built and more solid as in structure, the suspension is real nice and you barley feel the road and has bigger seats(im a big guy) on the other hand the gs400 is quicker off the line(weighs less) and has tiptronic and you control each gear at your finger tips(literally).

GS400 rule!!!

I own the 2000 model "the platinum series"
always love it.... fast smooth even with 120... mile on it
I will put LS400 brake on

yeah I own SC300 too the mileage on gas welll I think the sc300 cost more than my gs400.

and of course.... gs400 is the reliable car.

De

PS: when I finish putting the caliper on I will post some pictures
