Hey Guys,

Im from Ireland and im looking at building a GS300 as a driftcar. Iv sourced a GS300 gen2 as a base for the project and i am looking at using the engine and drive train from a manual Soarer.

Is there any threads on here that show the swap already done to a GS300? Iv heard that there could be an issue with the sump and the front subframe.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great

Its definitely possible but you'll be better off doing a 2J swap because it bolts right up to the frame and the 1J doesnt so you'll spend as much money custom fitting a 1J than you would just swapping a 2J in.

Thank you for the reply. The 1JZ is easier to come by in Ireland then the 2JZ. Also the tracks we run in Ireland are quite small so as the 1JZ engine rev's quicker its the better engine for this. Fabrication isnt going to be an issue as there is alot of fab work required for this swap.

I dont know of a 2gs drift thread but there are a few guys on here that drift their GS's.

Im looking to have about 400bhp. Who are the guys that drift them?? What mod's have they done to the steering to increase the steering angle?

I'm not sure about the angling kits for the GS, you should look up on that. As for power, I recommend just go NA-T instead of swapping especially if you're only aiming for 400ish to the wheels.

1JZ is a great engine still and potential for power, luckily the 1jz and 2jz motor mounts and oil pans are directly swappable so there are no issues there.

One of the great things about the JZ series all around is that the blocks/heads/accessories and lots of various parts are directly interchangeable. And it is done all the time for 1.5jz hybrid builds.

You could use the stock 2jz bottom with the 1jz everything else and gain the displacement back. Yeah the 2jz stock bottom won't be forged so that limits power somewhat, but NA-T would have the same limitation.

NA-T is a great route as well, can make plenty of power, but the biggest advantage of the 1JZ-GTE VVTI is that it can be had for well under 2k (and way way less in areas where they had chasers, mark II's, and soarers with stock 1jz's and they don't need to be imported) and will physically drop right utilizing stock parts on the existing motor. It is a single turbo so that you don't have to deal with the heater core clearance issues that the 2JZ-GTE rear turbo housing gives.

Either route will easily provide 400hp with minimal mods, so what ever you have most available in your area you can make something work for your build.

Yes, it's that easy, and 1000's of people have done it, it's huge in Japan and other parts of the world that actually received the 1JZ in many different toyota models over the course of many years.

The great part was a car like a Soarer or a Chaser that came with a 1JZ-GTE could do a direct swap-in of a 2JZ bottom block, and gain the .5 Liters giving quite a bit more bottom end torque and not have to do any wiring changes.

smaller tighter track means you need more torque. 2J all the way
