Passport and escort are both crap. They worked great for 6-8 months and then they need to be recalibrated which cost at minimum 75 bucks And you will have to constantly do this. After the first recalibration it went out again 3 months later. So it went in the trash. Go Valentine 1 !!! You cant go wrong. It picks up radar sometimes 1.5-2 miles down the road. It tells you how many radars it is picking up and what direction.

Don't feel bad I had over 30 tickets in one year, all for 15 over! All on the interstate as well. I also drive 100,000 miles a year!!! Luckily they were tickets all from out of my state so they were never reported to Florida to suspend my license. Cost close to 6k to pay all fines! Needless to say I don't do more than 9 mph over now unless there are several cars traveling with me.

If your getting hit with laser your getting a ticket. They read almost instantly. The radar just lets you know your about to get a ticket.

once you have a radar detector long enough, you know where the threat is coming from. You don't need arrows. You learn to listen the strength of the beeping. I have never needed arrows to tell me where the signal is coming from. It real simple to me.

I am sure the V1 is a nice product and all the reviews/comparisons I have read make them just as good or better in some areas. it is so close among the top detectors that it is really just splitting hairs. This topic is funny because it reminds me of the Ford vs Chevy debates

I have never had to have any of my escort products "recalibrated" I have ZERO tickets because my detector does what it is supposed to do. I also am not one of THOSE exclusive speeding drivers either. Even though my car is a near orgasm fun ride

not unless you get "scatter" from someone in front of you getting lazed. That has happened to me quite a few times and have been able to slow down enough. However if you are on the road alone and you get lazed...then you are caught!

Buying a radar detector doesn't automatically mean your going to get out of being pulled over. Cops now days would rather use what's called lidars than normal radars..with this, they can instantly track your speed without sending a signal to your detector until they push the button..which by then you will get a signal with your detector..but it's too late, they've already clocked you. No detector in the world can avoid this trap!

I'm sure you dont want to hear it but your best bet is to slow down. I got a lead foot too and have had more tickets than I care for. But I've learned to slow down.

State troopers have "detector-detectors" that show them cars that have one actually in use, even if the detector is hidden (though, for out-of-state registered cars, it is legal to have one in the car and not use it). They have the authority to impound detectors if in active use (and that law has been upheld by the courts).

(I know that the thread-topic is from a poster in TX, but, if you were not aware of the VA law, I needed to point it out here)

I have had several and they have all had this problem. And 300 is the cheapest I have ever spent on one. If you get on the escort and passport forum you will see how common this is. You my friend have been lucky!!! I don't speed unless I am traveling long distances and there isn't much traffic to make it unsafe. I am a little more mature than I was so I am never 15 or over any more, 9-11 tops only on interstates. But I also work 500 miles from where I live and go home every 2 weeks.

ITs is funny after my first post my wife came in with a gift.... a V1!!! I love that woman. If you buy a valentine buy it from valentine.com. You get factory direct pricing which is lower than everyone even ebay.

K40 and call it a day.....THEN slow down before you end up having your license suspended like i have TWICE (all for points for tickets) if i lose it again i cant ever get it back (i was a dumb reckless kid)

cheapest mod for you OP is backing off the gas but since you act like you wont do that, buy a K40 and speed away. no radar detector/blocker/scanner will save you forever

i agree with the slow down part.

Who cares about a radar detector when youre on the edge of losing your license? SLOW DOWN... not only are you putting other peoples lives at risk by going faster than all of them you are making all of us Lexus owners look like douche BMW drivers who think their cars are the shiz...

You save gas, you save on tickets, you save wear and tear on your car, you save other peoples lives, you save a massive headache, you save a lot.

anyways on topic :3

Ive used the V1 before.. its nice to have arrows n what not... gets annoying at times. get false alarms quite a bit but yea... it is what it is.. i drive speed limit anyways or at least with the flow of traffic.

i know that radar won't save me completely, but at least it's nice to have something that warns me. so i'm not completely blind on the roads. and I hate the traffic cops in TX, seems like they're picking on my car. I wasn't driving recklessly like many of u guys said. 3 of em was just driving 10mph above speed limit on highway, which is perfectly normal in TX and most people drive 15 mph above or over. The last one even worse, I was just following the traffic. a 4runner in front of me, my GS, and another RX behind me. 3 of us are driving on the same speed. And an F*ing cop made a U-turn and pulled my GS over. instead of the RX or the 4runner. Sounds weird right? but that happened!

back on the topic, im guessing Valentine one is a decent option

to sakataj, what's K40?

i used to have a valentine, they arent bad....

http://www.k40.com/

essentially they are a not cheap discretely installed (hidden) radar/laser detector/blocker

here are some pics of them installed on some lexus

http://www.k40.com/lexus-pages-114.php

and here is a video (the BLUE LED's notice how far away he got "his reading" and notice as soon as he drives by him the LED indicator goes to the left indicator

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kV5FcIAOoA

they also have a ticket gaurauntee "If you get a speeding ticket, we’ll pay for it."*

with the exception that the * Speeding ticket guarantee not valid for tickets written in school or construction zones, or incurred with a DUI violation.

I can totally relate to you man. I lived in new Mexico for 6 years and use to drive into Texas every weekend. It was almost like they targeted me. The road that I used would change speed limits without signs and they would be waiting. I remember driving home one day which was only a 2 hour drive and getting pulled over 3 times!
