Getting only 15mpg.
Well geeze.. I would've thought downgrading to a 3.0L 220hp car would help ease the pain at the pumps since my '03 Acura TL-S (260hp) only got me 13mpg. I don't drive crazy and I drive slow too. Only getting 15mpg on this '03 GS3. Anyways, I've searched the forums and read around. So now, I'm just accumulating a list of things to get for maintenance. Maybe you guys can help me out here!
I tried Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner and it worked but only on one tank of gas. After that, my mpg returned back to crap. It also triggered a CEL, P0141 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) which is basically one of my O2 sensors. After the gas was near empty, the light dissapeared so it seemed like the additives from the Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner was causing it.
My tires are also properly inflated at 34 psi. Pump 91 only! I also cleaned the intake filter as well. Previous owner stated that the major timing belt service has been done about 30k ago. Here's what I plan to do in terms of maintenance (some parts don't apply but im doing it anyways since im at 150k):
- seafoam
- clean throttle body
- oil change
- oil filter
- replace spark plugs
- replace fuel filter
- flush atf
- flush coolant
- replace air filter
- replace cabin air filter
- replace bank one sensor 2 O2 sensor
I plan to do the above in the order that I listed. Any order you guys would recommend? Thanks for any info or help!

For reference.. a quarter tank = 40-50 miles. A half tank = 80-100 miles. A full tank = 180-200 miles. Sucks to be me!

well before you do all that....I would recommend resetting you ECU (you could pull the fuse overnight and put it back in the morning)
I have a GS400 and was getting around 210miles before the gas light came on...
But after resetting my ECU, my car felt much quicker, throttle response was excellent and was getting around 300miles per tank now its settling around 275miles a tank. (no change in my driving habits)
Just a tip you could actually use tonight before you start spending any money...

My GS is up to par on it's maint and I get around 18MPG 100% city in mine slammed on 19's, but then again I have the OBX performance header so that's helping me with 1 or 2 MPG.
wow... I would do everything on your list, I recently did all that, MAF, throttle body, plugs, fuel cleaner,etc..
I get and average of 20-22mpg, depending on how much city driving I do, the lowest I have seen is 20mpg when I idle the car a bit.
I am at 275-280 miles with a 1/4 tank left, lights usually come on a little after 325miles or so.

I'll tell you right now that the O2 sensor is the only thing on that list that might help you plus a lighter foot. I have done all those things to my GS3 already and no improvement in MPG. If you're going to complete the things on that list, make sure you're doing it only for maintenance. Don't expect your car to go up in MPG or you'll be disappointed.

Here's what the manual says: "After the engine runs for about 10 seconds, you are ready to drive."
Wow 15mpg kinda crazy....I have a 02 GS300, I used to get ****ty miles when I had 20's but still got 250 miles to the tank.....now I have 18's and a heavy foot and still get 300 miles to the tank city driving...
I used to use chevron gasvor mobile but now I only use SHELL V-POWER and I c the difference instantly.....

Im not sure what kind of mileage I get, but it isnt good, I travel 24 miles a day, this morning the needle was on the F bar the thicker one up top, now after just getting home driving with the A/C on (not on the way there it was still nice and cool outside) the needle came down passed the bar between the 3/4 mark and the F (just about between the 2 lines a little above half. BAD, then on a cold start i let it idle for about 3-5 min
On cold start in certain areas you have no other choice but to let it sit 10 minutes.
When it snows here in Denver, or any snow area, it takes forever for the car to warm-up and the defrosters/heater to work. Aside from that, one minute tops is good enough as far as warming up the car goes.

I don't think you have to wait for the car to FULLY warm up before you start driving. Just ease it till it fully warms up. Once my temp needles start to move then i just say under 2.5krpm.
I remember reading somewhere on the 2IS forum that its worse that you let the car fully warm up vs driving the car after a minute of start up.

you dont need to let the car sit and warm up all the way, start the car and let it run for about 30seconds, then just take it easy before getting on it.
