Default What is 'High Mileage' for a GS430

I have done some searching and some research but I still don't have a definitive answer. I'm looking at 2nd gen GS430s, specifically 2001s with high mileage (95-98k).

I understand alot of people have taken these cars to about 175k and beyond, but I am wondering what is actually high mileage for one of these cars. Like when do people typically experience 'leave you on the side of the road' issues?

I'm a little afraid of anything with 100k+ miles on it, it's just how I'm wired. I have never owned a Lexus, I'm looking forward to it - but I'm looking for something reliable as I have an AE86 and a twin turbo 350z.

I found one with 98k miles, regularly maintained (it has the svc records), it would need the 90k maintenence for $10k, I just don't want to buy it and have a ton of issues.

Considering the average 12 k miles a year. That's one great deal. Tell them to hack the price to get the maintence done, or meet you have way. Btw, I bought my 01 gs430 with 142 k miles. Its average but I am the second owner and the first owner was Lexus since it was a leased car.

Everything mechanical breaks down at some point or another. It all depends on how the car was treated by its previous owner. With proper care and maintenance you can expect your Lexus to run well over 200,000 miles. So comparing that to 98,000 that you found . . . its hardly a teenager.
You will get some great advice on regular maintenance and upkeep of your ride. No need to worry about that. Bite the bullet it will be worth the luxury you will be getting.

Damn tigerblood you must be "Bi-winning" if you have all these cars. So I take it the GS will be your beater.

The 10k price-tag sounds a little high for the 90k service.

Pretty sure the $10K is the price of the car, not the service.
All but one of my cars has over 100K on them. It is just a machine. I have friends that have cars with less than 100K with "substantial" problems. Mechanically, Lexus's (Lexi?) are very well engineered and with proper maintenance I do not foresee any issues. The only thing I worry about with cars is the interior, damage or neglect in that area and I walk away.
So to answer the OP question, I would say any used 430 with existing problems and/or no service records is a no go. If everything works and the car was serviced then I look at it as a reliable buy.

I say anything over 300k is high mileage for a GS430, or any Lexus at that . 98k is still a baby.

You shouldn't worry about high mileage in newer cars. To give you a hint. I've owned cars from year models 92'-02'. My lowest mileage car when I bought it was 122k (02 Sentra). My highest mileage car when I bought it was 152k (92' SC400). My current GS430 (01) was purchased with 136k on the clock, if memory serves me well. If the car was taken care of, not abused, had services done on it, you should be fine .

honestly i think mid 200k's is what i'd consider a high mileage GS..

here is a good thread for you to read, a guy with 318k on his GS

my GS just crossed 207k and knock on wood it could easily pass for a car with less then 100k on it..

here's the GS400 thread i was talking about

I purchased my GS with 55 miles on it and now have 189k on it. I’m replaced the timing belt, water pump and serpentine belt at 94000 intervals. I had the tranny drained a couple of years ago. The brake actuator, valve cover gaskets, and rear main seal have just been replaced bc of leakage. It still drives like new. My only problem is that bc I only let the dealership make the repairs, I have spent more than I could ever sell it for. I still love it, and the original paint (black) is holding up very well.
