Fellow GS owners,
Be wary of where you park in the malls
I was parked at the Palisades Mall in Upstate New York and I was in the mall for 3 hours and when I returned I could not open the doors with the factory remote (i thought maybe the remote battery is dead), I found the ashtray opened (I do not smoke) and the rim key on the passenger floor. I got out and looked around at the passenger side and to my demise the 1999 GS400 Black on Black was VIOLATED. The door handle cracked and the lock hanging inside the door. In a rage I got out of there fearing that they maybe in the area and waiting to carjack me. The doors will not lock, anytime I lock them with the key or from inside the unlock. I have factory 17 inch rims and a spare which they did not take. My car is not "hooked up" as it already attracts too much attention I don't even have window tints. The strange thing about this terible ordeal is that the car alarm never sounded. I know it is factory but shouldn't it have made some noise?
What dou you think the cost of repair would be at Lexus? Should I buy a hood lock? I really don't want to put a aftermarket alarm due to the electrical problems down the road but should I?
Palisades Mall has an intricate set of camera/monitoring tools like no other......that I can think of. They also record 24/7 footage from security cameras that are mounted on top of the roof in addition to the regular ones around the mall. I would say they have 99% of the area covered. I hope you stopped by the security room as they just might have caught the villans on tape.
it might did make a sound but you were inside of the mall and obviosly did not hear it
did you talk to security and/or police? did you report it?
after market alarm: i think it's a good idea to install after makret alarm system.. make sure you chooice a nice one and make sure some professionals installs it and not just someone who has only general knowlage of the car and alarms.. 'cause when people do that.. wind blows and car's alarm goes off
Sorry to hear that mvpkop. I know what you are feeling. I had the same thing happen to me in my 1999 Lexus GS300 at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ when I went to meet another ClubLexus member there a couple of summers ago for an import event being held there. We parked next to each other but they didn't touch his car. They popped my lock and ransacked my car but didn't take anything, not even my Palm Pilot or CDs. It looks like the locks on the GS's are easy prey for thieves.
The locks on a GS is a POS ! My driver side lock is jammed, and my passenger side lock is pushed in. For some FRICKIN reason, everytime I go to the mall or the movies, I come back with ATLEAST A NEW SCRATCH! .
I feel for you man, nowadays you CAN'T have a nice ride without some kind of things happening to it.
Our cars we can only drive it and not park anywhere for long period of time. Especially GS's on clublexus.
As this just happened to me last week on my GS4...i got a quick estimate given to me by the service manager...about a $1k...I had hte lock drilled out, door needs to be repaired (some of it was bent out by the handle and the drill went almost all the way through the other end, and there is a DEEP scratch above the handle...of course handle to be replaced also...
The reason they dont steal anything is bc they are looking for valet keys....to keep the car clean and not touch the ignition so they can dump the car quick to a buyer. I had 20 bucks CASH in the glovebox, and they didnt touch it...jsut everything was ransacked in the pursuit for that key.

Just cannot believe people would actually leave their valet key in their car. But I guess they do.
Hmmm.. good thing we don't do that.
mvpkop....sorry to hear that...hope it gets fixed soon. I still think hooking up high voltage on the chassis is a damn good thing.
any decent shop could install an alarm without a problem, especially since it will be something that they have done a thousand times. an alarm is the first "mod" i did and cut no corners. all the lights, kills and all, and even a digital tilt sensor in case they slowly raise my car for my rims, which wouldn't set off any other alarm. definitely look into one, and look at other cars when their alarm goes off even though its always false
the factory alarm is disabled if you force open from the key lock.
how manytime I have to say this this apply to ALL factory alarm, not just lexus. It's the fact.
the factory alarm sux.
