Audi RS6 Will leave GS430 In the Dust!
The 2003 Audi RS6 which is A6-based sedan sports a 4.6-liter bi-turbo V8 engine that puts out an amazing 450 horsepower. Reaching 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, the RS6 will be one of the five fastest sport sedans ever available in the U.S. market. I hope Lexus wakes up and gives us a bi-turbo V8 engine for our GS430 before it is to late!

But our GS doesn't cost $82K (Automobile, Sept/02 issue) either.
I suspect we'll see more from T/L to highlight their presence in F1........maybe we'll see some of it at Paris next month.

dude...HUGH price difference...i would not classify both in the same class...for the $30k saved i could get a Z...if $$$ is not an issue, i would consider something like the rs or from amg...both great ultimate sports sedan..

This is what it comes down to. The GS4 when it came out was one of the fastest production sports sedan on the planet. Back then it was easy to do. Now there are plenty more beating it, and plenty more coming up right behind.
So,
1) Lexus may need an "image maker", to compete with the likes of the next gen m5, the new e55 and rs6...and it would be nice if it undercut them, at say...75k. I know I would buy it.
2) If it does not do the above, Lexus must at least make the next gen GS4 with enough horses to beat the planned biturbo that bmw will have to slot between a 340 horse v8 and the v10 in the m5. In other words, I am BEGGING for lexus to come out with the GS4 with...hmm...at least 380 horses. Any less, and it doesnt make the car stick out like it did when this gen came out.

I don't know who brought it up before but I agree with them in a way, the HP in Lux cars is getting out of hand. Although I want a 380,450,500hp car, what is the use? 300hp in the GS is plenty. I bought my Lexus because of the ride quality, if I wanted it to drive like a sports car, I would have bought a sports car. I thought Lexus came out with the GS for those who wanted a 4 door Luxury car without the typical performance that comes with a Luxury car. They gave it enough power to be practical and sporty. Everyone wants an M5 killer, then go buy an M5. I think Lexus should keep the GS in the 300-350 range and at best make a limited run of something like the AMG model. From what I hear, more HP=more problems, I like my reliability the way it is, if I bought a high performance GS then I would expect some issues.
Don't more people buy the 300 then the 430? I think the stock high HP cars are great, but in reality maybe the real high HP cars should be left for serious tuners and enthusiast. I would like to do a TT 98' 400 as a weekend car, but buying something like that stock from the dealer as a daily driver, I don't know..
I would buy a 380hp GS or a 450HP RS-6, but in reality I don't see the need for mass production. Aside from the Luxury tax, I am sure with the 500+ HP Vipers and M5, they will find a way to tax these high performance vehicles.

where do i start?
1)
YOU THINK? Dont more peple own a 528/530 instead of a 540? Dont more people own a E320 as opposed to a E420/E430? Its a more affordable luxury car, so no DUH. This doesnt mean there isnt a market for a LUXURY SPORTS SEDAN.
2) which brings me into my second point. Thats what the GS430 was made to be. A car that has a decent ride, that can handle decenlty, you can take family and clients out in, and has a boat load of power for us freaks. As we noticed 300 hp is almost becoming common place with a damn G35 almost there. Will they eventually tax these high hp cars? possibly..but I want to get in on it before they have a chance to.
3) Does more HP bring more reliability issues? Possibly, but Ill take my chance with a lexus with high HP, and id bet most of us would agree that we would have less issues than the M5 experienced. Basically I want the HP of a M5 and the additional dependability of a Lexus. Otherwise you can bet that I wouldve already switched into a E39 M5.
4) I never really said I expect lexus to put out a high production 70k+ car. It has to be limited production to a point. The GS430 can be replaced by a 340 horse version for those that think its enough, but why not offer something above and beyond for the ones that want what is described in 3)? Afraid that someone will be driving a faster lex? Afraid of paying more if you want to be on top?
Noone said you have to buy it, just make it available.
