Default Orange Auto-leveling headlight indicator light

Made this thread to be more descriptive and more helpful to those who may search for this similiar problem. Please close previous thread.

I have this orange auto leveling headlight indicator light that comes on every once in a while. When my headlights are on, they seem to be pointing in the downward position and wont go back up. (Viagra joke here) Only way to fix this is to shut the car off and start it back up.

I dont think i could be any more detailed then this nor say anything in regards to it. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue and what would be a fix for this. It's hard to diagnose since it doesnt happen everytime, rather once every 2 to 3 weeks but its been bugging the crap out of me. I dont like anything wrong with any of my cars and obviously, something isnt right.

If you dont know what i mean about the indicator, i will post a picture next time it pops up but the best way i can describe it is its an orange headlight symbol with two arrows, one pointing up and one pointing down.

could be easy as just replacing the autolevelers on the headlights which may be going out or a few other things that pertain to the them including the leveler sensors in the rear suspension

Yea its hard to diagnose since it only happens once in a blue moon, still annoying though but was just checking to see if anyone else ran into the same problem, when it pops on again ill be sure to get out and try to diagnose it there.

Where is the auto leveler please that you wiggle?

Sounds like a bit of lubrication (e.g. WD-40) may do the trick.

It's in the rear, next to the swaybar end link. I know the previous owner of mine had the sensor assembly replaced ($400 repair at a Lexus dealer).

Hey guys, I just had this indicator light come on. Wow is it annoying! Mine was pulsing like a little strobe light. My autoleveler is actually disconnected from the rest of the suspension so all I had to do was find the lever's middle ground that made it happy. Apparently some snow or chunk of ice must have pushed it out of acceptable limits. I was pleased to hear the motors run and see the lights move after getting the car down.

I had a accident last year and it hit my driver side headlight.

I'm positive it's this that's causing the auto leveling light to light up on the dash. But I want to know what the actual part looks like so I can replace it already. My right light is bright and shining properly.. my driver side is low and outta alignment. I know it's cuz of the accident. Before the accident, the light never turned on. Can someone please post a pic of where that auto leveling unit looks like and where it is????

I have been searching the internet for a remedy and I am glad I came across this thread! Mine comes on once in a blue moon and disappears after I turn the car off and on.

Peculiar.

Sorry to thread jack, but I have a similar problem.

When I turn my car on the headlights move down, then up, then back down. A few seconds after it does that the orange warning light comes on after start up. Is it possible that the light can be on the dash but the auto level function still work?

Yours is faulty, hence the indicator light coming on.

Does is do it every time?

Mine fails to come back up once every month or so, I just shut off the car, turn it back on and the problem is fixed. Annoying.

Well whats strange is the light comes up only after I have been driving for a while, it does not turn on right when the car is started. Sometimes it will take longer and in rare cases never at all, but one thing is always the same, they always go up, down, then back up again after start up...im assuming the level sensors work if they are doing that correct?

This was the most recent thread I could find on the Auto Leveling Light Indicator.

I have a 98 GS400 that came with OEM HIDs. Everything worked fine, but I wanted retrofits, so I bought LS460 retros from a member that were retrofitted into OEM housings and retained the autoleveling. Everything was working fine for awhile, but I took it into a shop to get them to take it apart and realign one of the projectors since it had come loose. They initially couldn't get the retros to autolevel correctly (go down, up, and then settle) because of how the original owner placed it or something. Both sides would move up and down on their own and when it settled, the cutoff line kept getting thrown off. I asked around, and a 2GS guy said he just disconnected the motors, which I told the shop to do. That fixed the problem, but now I have the light on my dash. The 2GS guy I asked said that he never had any lights on his dash. From what I can tell, only one plug was disconnected on each side for me, but he said there were two plugs disconnected on his driver side and one on the passenger side.

Anyone run into this? What other plug needs to be unplugged?
