Default thinking of getting GS430, but new model coming?

Guys,

I'm in the market for getting a luxurious yet sleek sedan, and have narrowed down to two choices. The GS430, which i've loved (the GS line) since it was introduced in 98...or the new Mercedes E500. I'm leaning more toward the Lexus, cause there are much more potential for it in terms of mods. However, after lurking around this board for a good few months, I believe that some argue that Lexus is coming out with a new line for the GS? can anyone confirm/disprove this being true? IF they are coming with a new line, anyone know WHEN that is happening? I've also seen that photoshopped ES so thats' outta the question, but the worst thing that i would want is spend the $$$ in buying a new GS only to find that they have a new model the following year. BTW, i understand that the new model might not be as nice as the current one, but atleast i still have that option to choose right. What do you guys think? thanx.

Gary.

The rumors at this point hint pretty strongly that the new GS will come out next fall as a 2004 model. It's a personal decision whether you will want to wait, or if that alone will drive you to the Benz.

Of course the E-Class is brand new this year (can you say quality problems?), but my opinion is that you shouldn't worry about what MIGHT happen. If you like the GS430 better than the E500 then get it.

In addition to what Iceman just meantioned, you may want to consider that E500 has a base price of over 55k, while a fully loaded GS430 can be had for about 50k. When/if the new GS comes out next year, don't expect to get one for less than MSRP, which will probably at least be equal current MSRP 56k, fully loaded. Personally, I would not buy any vehicle in its first model year, not even a Lexus. I you want a great sport sedan that is available right now, get the GS430. But, if you have to have the lastest, go with the E500 of wait to see what the new GS has to offer.

As they stated Fall 2004, maybe later. New E-class is being launced late here (current model still selling well) and the new 5 comes after that (which may be delayed considering the current model is also selling well, getting that dumb i-drive fixed (gen 2) and changing some on the styling cues) and Lexus is very pleased with the shape of this car (ala 1st SC series) so it may be 2005 even!

agree.....to me this is a never ending game...all depends on your priority...

GS: excellent pricing, top notch reliability and customer service..yes, new model are to debute end of next year or early 04...did i mention excellent value???

E500: brand new design(so every one) will be looking at your car for a while...BUT, stiff price, no room for discount..PLUS benz is not well-known to be on the top in quality survey....and if i am not mistaken , there is a HUGH price diff between the gs430 and e500..

Gary, as ice said, if you like the e500 better, get the benz...or if you think the new gs debute will make you think twice about getting the current gs430, then get the benz...personally, i would NEVER get the 1-3yrs production german cars(local benz dealer tech told me this too)...don't get me wrong, i do like german cars, i would love them if they are priced ~$5-7 k less than the current level..basically you can only get a e320 for the price of a gs430..well, i am a number guy, so that is my $0.01..

When we say Fall 2004, we mean a 2005 model.

Fall 2004!? I thought it was going to be a 2004 model, coming out next fall! I guess I just X-ed out the possibility of a lex being my next car if that is the case.

The new GS will come out in Sept/Oct of 2003 as a 2004 MY (Model Year) car. This should clear up any confusion, I hope.
