yup, same here. I need to be at least 5ft away from the car for my key signal to work. Maybe 10ft if I'm lucky. At first I thought maybe it was low battery but I installed a new one and no difference. However my RX300 gets almost 30ft with no problem.

Yeah, the waves bounce on your skull or something and amplifies the signal. Not sure about health risks, though LOL

Ya the under the chin thingy really works. It increases range considerably.

I think Lexus kept the range short on purpose for security reasons. You don't want to accidentally hit the unlock button when your 100 ft away from your car, or be tempted to hit the unlock button when your 100 ft away from your car to get your groceries in, giving a theft or car jacker time to enter your car before you do.

The reason Lexus did this is to protect the codes that the remote sends out to the receiver unit in the car. There are Hi-tech thieves that have "toys" that will catch these codes when you use your remote.

This is why they have rolling codes. Most modern (post @ 2000) remote keyless systems roll the code every time it is used so that someone with a code grabber cannot get it. Most decent modern garage door openers do this now, too.

Read all about the chin here.
