This sounds like just what I'm trying to do. Are you still willing to pass on some help? It would be greatly appreciated!Originally Posted by Yamaheart
I have an 2003 Lexus GS 300 with NAV and 6 cd changer. If you are interested, I can help you. I hooked up mine 3.5 mini jack straight to my 6 Cd changer. When play from and ipod/mp3 player, simply put the head unit on CD mode. Just to be sure to insert a BLANK CD on which ever one of the 6 slot in the cd changer. This is to trick that the CD changer is playing but in reality, you are playing from the ipod/mp3 player. All u need to an 3.5 mini jack cable and some electrical tape, better with the soldering gun too...

yea i tried the relay method wasn't to impress with going that method so i rip it out
and ran 3.5mm to RCA straight forward from the cd changer output the only downside you have to remember to pause your input cause your hear it even in tape or FM mode

So on the back of the cd changer there is one cord coming out, you cut into that and then solder on or wire wrap one side of the 3.5mm jack to one wire, and the 2nd wire to another? Are there just 2 wires under the shielding going from the disc changer? Does it matter which wire goes where?

yes there a smaller plug behide the cd changer but you need to know which is right or left postive and negtive as well or you may have your music play back ward if im not mistaken this are the color for the plug
black-right positive
red- left positive

so there are 4 wires on the cd changer. did you solder or just wire wrap? On the 3.5mm plug, is there 4 wires, or just two? Where did you get your 3.5mm plug? I was thinking of just buying a 3.5mm cable to rca jack then cutting off the rca jacks, but pretty sure that would just be 2 cables..

there 4 on the 3.5mm (+) (-) but i recommand to get wires and a 3.5mm female connector solder the wire to the female connector then the wires to the cd changer plug after all you have is female connector which you can leave hanging in the glove compare or drill a hole in a place of your choose then plug in any male to male 3.5mm jack in that connector(aux jack)
or use something like this cut the rca cable off then splice this to the cd changer plug

Not sure I understand what you are saying.... There are 4 wires on the cd changer, but only 2 on the RCA cable you show, correct? Also I keep the cd changer plugged in right, I am just tapping into the "live" wires already connected, or is the cd changer completely disconnected.

the rca cable have two per line if you cut a rca in half your going to see and a shield(-) and conntative wire(+) so left is going to have two and the ditto for the Right
Ok great, and inside the plastic on the cd changer cable, there are also 4 wires, I wrap or solder them 1 to each and then it should work?

ding ding ding now paypal me cookie ... but yea its straight forward that why i dont really see or show the point of the relay mod beside it turning off this input when you unplug something i wasted money on relays for nothing when this method is cleaner and less headache in the long run...

im not very technologically savvy but ive been trying to find a method along these lines for awhile now. i think i understand the wiring part but my biggest concern/question is: do you lose all functionality of the CD changer when going this route?
Rookie
no loss of the cd changer and i dont have to mess with all the crazy wiring of the relays and whatnot? count me in... hope i can manage to do this correctly without damaging anything.
neojungle1: i know you said it in a previous post but could you possibly just make a list of the items i should get from a visit to radio shack so that i dont leave anything out? please and thank you in advance.

I am going to do this soon too, I will get pics and make a simple DIY project to help the community out - should be pretty simple!
