Had this problem on my 98 gs4, and had it on my current 01 gs430. The factory MAY aim them correctly, but it is simply too high for the road going public. The Acura TL is an excellent example of HIDs that don't bug on coming drivers. . .they are aimed lower by the factory.

If you have Auto Leveling HIDS: Start car, turn on headlights, use screwdriver to adjust height of each headlight lower. This gets rid of the everyone flashing you problem.

The dealer WILL NOT FIX THIS. If you look at the level by each headlight, the factory setting is dead on- to annoy people, that is.

Lower them and stop the suffering. Now that they are lower, my high beams are more dramatic when used(especially since I replaced the 65 watt bulbs with 100w ones.) I aimed them slightly higher, above where the low beam HIDs are already hitting.

Trust me, just lower them. You aren't going to convince the 200 cars you pass every night that you're right and they're wrong. They are just going to flash you relentlessly.

I think headlight adjustment is mentioned in the Owner's manual. I believe there are 2 screws on the headlight housing. 1 is for vertical adjustment, and horizontal adjustment. The vert adjustment is hiding near the side of the assembly.

Default anyone have this problem

I owe a '99 GS300. Mine had the factory halogens, but I decided to have an 8000 HID Low-Beam Kit w/ Transformer professionally installed. I had many people high-beaming me at first, and I took it to a Lexus Dealer. They played around with the alignment of the bulbs, and once the bubble on the level showed to be centered, they left it alone. Later on that night, I drove my car and noticed that I wasn't getting the full effect of having the HID lights installed. The problem was that when the bubbles are centered, the beams are showing on the ground to an extent of 30ft. approx. I had to realign my lights by shining them on a fence. Regardless of where the bubbles were on the level, I had to do it this way so that I'd get the effect of the HID kit as compared to the factory halogens. This also stopped the high-beaming that I experienced from oncoming drivers or those in front of me who were angry, slowed down, and got behind me. There is one screw on the headlight housing for each of the low beam lights. Clockwise turns the beams in one direction... counter-clockwise turns the beams in the opposite direction. Hope this helps. No more high-beams from anyone now, and I'm still getting the full effect of the HID kit.

Yes... that's the way they should show. Mine are like that now as well. Keep in mind, that I don't have the factory HID kit installed; ya know, the one with the auto-leveling bulbs. As a result, I have to play around with the alignment of the bulbs so that they're not blinding folks. Do you have the factory-installed HID kit? What exactly does auto-leveling provide for you? Are you pleased with it? I've never asked a dealer, but I thought the auto-leveling feature will lower the aim of the bulbs when you're on an incline, so that you won't blind those ahead of you. If that's the case, then that's pretty neat! Please clarify this... Also, the 2001 GS models had HID lamps as a standard feature... What about the 2002 and possibly the 2003 models? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Gregj

auto-leveling this is feature that comes with HID's, it's basically a small mechanic inside of your headlights that adjust where to aim your beam of light..

if this is not enough refer to the manual

haha... true..

what you should do is not to turn on your high beam and assume everytime someone high beam you is a cop..

but here is another way to see the difference..

if person turn on high beam and do not turn it off untill he passes you that's due to your "high" beam light (i.e. your hid)

if person just flashing that's usually due to the cop siting and waitin for you to get into a trap

heh
