Default Instrument Cluster Dead

The other day I was backing out of a parking spot and when I turned the key my warning gauges flashed, the car turned over then quit and my instrument cluster went out. I got out, opened my hood, wiggled a couple of wires, got back in, and she started up. Only problem . . . my instrument cluster is totally dead. No backlights, gauges don't move, nothing. When I turn the key to start the engine, some of the warning lights light up, but I don't know if they are correctly functioning. Also, just noticed that the back-lights for the radio and A/C displays aren't working. During the daylight, they are fine, but night - dark. Can anyone shed some light on what to check, the fuses listed in the manual are all fine, I'm wondering if there is something else I may be able to check before I call the cluster DOA.

Thanks for your help!

-Steve

Unplug the negative terminal for about 5 minutes then put it back and try starting the car again. This happened to me before when the battery terminal was loose.
