TTE replica lip first impressions.....

Ok, so since noone wants to get rid of their authentic TTE lips, and after months of searching for a used one online, I finally decided screw it and ordered the replica VIS version. Got it in the mail today, and quality is pretty damn good. Ive ordered from VIS before, and quality was never an issue. I will do a test fit to see how good the fitment is. Overall I am pretty impressed, and while it isnt urethane like the TTE lip is, it does seem to be stronger than other fiberglass pieces I have owned in the past. I'll post a after test fitment pic later.

lip looks dope

4play4dr 07-24-10 12:39 PM

how much is vis sellin these for?

tiger4life 07-24-10 01:47 PM

i picked up one also. quality is good, but i had a hard time getting it to stick. ended up using 3m tape, epoxy, and screws. to the op, you will need to use screws. i picked up mines local for 140 new, i think that was reasonable.

Chris98GS4 07-24-10 01:59 PM

Link to where you can buy this? Thanks

acnup00tl 07-24-10 02:55 PM

sleeper408 07-24-10 04:15 PM

For around $170, this doesn't seem to be a bad choice.

toy4life86 07-24-10 04:58 PM

acnup00tl 07-24-10 06:06 PM

Google "VIS".. they sell that replica there..good luck with fitment though. Seems hit or miss with them ;)..

sometimes it's better to wait and get the good stuff instead of rushing it, ya know what i mean?.. i want one too but not too sure about the replicas. From experience i would rather wait and get the good stuff instead.

kped Gs430 07-24-10 07:32 PM

Wise man right here ^ haha

acnup00tl 07-24-10 08:13 PM

The reason why people are wanting the replica , is the tte is too hard to get .

Solo_D33A 07-24-10 08:18 PM

TTE doesn't make 2GS lip anymore iirc.

No its the rediculous price people want for them used, 300-350 for a used lip they must be out their damn mind but you have dummys that buy em for that all scratched up.

+1 I've seen people ask $400 or more, add shipping and paint... Yeah, $600+ for a 2" strip of plastic? I won't be that dependent on one company to be willing to take it in the arse willingly just to get their product. If this fitment test ends up proving good, VIS, we'll be talking soon.

PltnmGS400 07-25-10 03:17 AM

replica looks ok, but i rather have the real deal.

MobbinVIP 07-25-10 12:40 PM

TxLexus400 07-25-10 01:21 PM

yeah, I talked with Sewell the other day and asked, not that I want one again, but Darryl said the same thing, they wont send em into the states anymore. If you want one, you can order from them directly it sounds like, just no one wants to pay for shipping.

gsjason300 07-25-10 03:00 PM

the fitment on this lip sucks balls. i have it on my car haha maybe becuase i shouldove done some trimming or someting before i got it painted.

swegs430 07-25-10 03:42 PM

LexusK 07-25-10 11:51 PM

Can this replica lip be molded? I wanted to eventually get a TTE lip but I wouldnt mold it just because its too expensive to mess up. However, for $170, I wouldnt mind messing up a replica lol.

Mike813 07-26-10 05:18 AM

gotta pay to play... replicas are a nice alternative but with a fiberglass lip up front and positioned that low that amount of $ you pay to repair/repaint will add up to that price in 1 incident if you think about it. (road debris/parking lot floor barriers/curbs) <- will claim that fiberglass.

ive had my share of fiberglass kits back when i had my acura/hondas urethane ftw.

swegs430 07-26-10 05:23 AM

the new retail price for the real TTE lip has gone up due to the ending of shipping aswell! so they are realy starting to get expensive.

baddis es 07-26-10 03:39 PM

where are these pix!!!

You know most of the body kits out there that are high quality genuine JDM are still just fiberglass right?

cloead 07-27-10 08:43 AM

pics of this mounted so i can order my replica already

sa3reghatc 07-27-10 08:53 AM

Patience people damn! The car is getting painted as we speak, so fitment will have to wait.

Oh, and to the sweedish guy who knows where to get the lips, why don't you just post where to get them from instead of being all secretive? Seriously, we are all adults here.

And to the "pay to play" guy, it's not so much a price issue as it is a availability issue. These lips are no longer imported to the USA, meaning they are almost impossible to come by. And people who were fortunate to get one are not selling them.

Mine has been threw hell and back and still strong as the day it was installed, If mine was fiberglass It would have been long gone. I pays to get the real thing

tiger4life 07-27-10 05:06 PM

^^^understood, I have a replica but don't ride slammed like you do. It just didn't make fiscal sense for me to pay $375-$400+ for a used lip from someone. I get what you are saying, I just think it depends on application. But I think all in all the replica is a win for everyone. Those who still feel they need the original should be able to get them for a more reasonable price now and those who want the look and are willing to be careful can get the replica. In the end, it's just a lip on 6-9k car, it isn't that serious.;)

+1 why i wanted a poly front lip so bad.. figerglass up front is no good

yes im aware of it, ive purchased many ebay kits back at my time before finally going strictly poly only... most genuine companies that still use fiberglass for kits use high quality resins if they are authentic which brings the strength very similar to wood most ebay sellers do not. even the name brand resins they are strong enough to sustain rock chips and hits but not enough flex to hold if a pull from a driveway barrier or big debris was to hit the bumper/lip.

it also depends on your state as well, i live in nyc prone to potholes, garbage on the road and all the deep dips/pitch roads and driveway problems fiberglass strength is just is not good enough here. maybe if you live in a well maintained area or you drive the car only for shows fiberglass would be a perfect alternative. I did not write "pay to play" to talk down on anyone its just something i know from experience the op might regret later down the line when youre coughing up 150-200$ a pop for each fix every time an incident happens.

sa3reghatc 07-27-10 07:04 PM

I dent mean to say that you are talking down on someone, I just said that I can afford a real deal tte lip, it's just impossibleto get one right now. Whenever one comes up for sale, the seller will not ship and there are like 10 people fighting over it.

bigjussin 07-28-10 08:35 AM

i dont get why any of these body kit companies can't make one in urethane...it's way less material then a greddy lip which is too bulky anyway
