Default Intermittent grinding?

My wife was driving around today and went on a highway and noticed that everytime she went over bumps or made a right turn there will be a metal grinding sound. However, she pulled into the driveway and let it cool down and then took it out again around town to try and reporduce thesound (it was making noises around town 10-35 mph driving too).

When she went out to reproduce the sound, nothing happened and it drove like normal. I know we had a sudden heavy freak hailstorm last night and was wondering if that could have caused any damage, but all the hail is melted now. I thought maybe suspension at first, but then I thought maybe LCA? Help!

Yeah...it was a very surprising event...no damage to the paint or the glass, but the windshield on my bimmer got cracked a bit. It also cracked the corner of the read window on my soft top...bummer for my bimmer....but other than that I haven't even heard the sound since. It's been driving like it always has.

wonder if it might be a dust shield rubbing on the rotor?

Hmmm....what would cause a bending of the dust shield under normal driving conditions? It sounds totally possible...

never seen it happen. I suppose something could do it, however unlikely.

Unless someone did it to your car just to mess with you, which is extremely easy.

And that hail storm...I doubt that did any damage that would cause grinding.

My favorite prank for RWD cars is to take a huge zip tie, wrap it around the drive shaft so that the part you're not using smacks the under body. It's hard to find unless you're on a lift, and get one in black....you'll drive that person crazy trying to figure out what the problem is.
