i just bought a 2001 gs430 with the navigation system but the dvd was missing so i bought one and it doesnt take the disc. i was thinking that its messed up because it seems like it has no power. i checked out the back and it has five ports to connect to but only has three harness wires thats connected. so i was wondering if i was missing some wires or if thats how it is, so i can just buy a new ecu.

did u buy the right disc? do you have power to the unit? yes btw it should only have 3 harness wires connected

no it wasnt the right disc but besides that it doesnt take the disc in. and thanks for the info i thought i was missing some wires and was bumed. i just purchased a new ecu on ebay with the right disc for $350 so im just waiting to get it so i can hook it up. I hope thats all it is.

i was also wondering if there is a fuse for the navigation ecu?? thanks for the help.

oh that was silly. you coulda upgraded to a gen 4 or a gen 5 for bout that price and have a MUCH better nav unit, i did it when my gen 2/3 unit pooped out on me. do you have power to the nav ecu?

not sure but check your owners manuals

oh dammmm. that sucks man .. im upset now. i didnt know that. so all u have to do is buy a new gen 4 or 5 and it just hooks up you dont have to buy anything else for it to work??

yes sir, besides the correct disc for the gen 4/5 (they all use different discs) there is nothing else to buy.........although i wanted the gen 5 unit i couldn't find one for a decent price. so i settled for the gen 4 and have no complaints. i only paid bout 400 for my gen 4 unit WITH a 5.1 disc, it came from a pruis

i wish i would of knew all this before i bought another one. and i honestly dont know how to check if it has power thats just wat im guessing because it doesnt take the disc in. ill find out wen i get the new ecu. and if anything ill buy a gen4 or five and sell mine.

i also just printed out a list of all the cars that have a gen 4 and 5 and im going to the junkyard tomorrow. maybe ill get lucky.

do you hear any noise coming from it on start up? i dont recall any lights on it but you should hear it....and stupid question but just in case have you tried to eject the old dvd? yeah the gen 4 is so much better and i was told the gen 5 is even nice but i never could source a gen 5

Speaking of disc...Does anyone has the old one ? Cuz I am still using the 02 version, If anyone want to get of it..I don't mind buying it off from ya!!...

yeah man my bad im new to this i just joined recently, but no i dont hear any noise thats exactly y i was thinking it had no power. and there is no disc in there. another thing that makes me think it has no power is because if it did and there was no disc it would tell me on the screen that its missing and it doesnt. but im just waiting on the new ecu to come in. so hopefully wen i hook it up everything works. i also just purchased the updated disc for my gen. also thanks for the part number i printed out the list so i can look around and see if i can find a cheap one.
