So my master is bad and im looking to get a used one off ebay for 400$. I have a 98 and the master is from a 03. but i remember reading somewhere that the 01+ is not compatible. something about the plugs not fitting? any help would be appreciated, i dont wanna pay 400$ i dont really even have right now for a part that wont even fit!
i asked the same question before as the 01+ master cylinder was also bigger. the answer i got was it would not fit because of some changes, which included the plug, and i believe the distribution brake force system was different or something.

$400 for a used one? i rather go out and buy a reman master cylinder for less than half that price.
Dude send me the link cuz i could use that right about now! really if you know where i can find a rebuilt master i would jump all over that. ive been searching forever and its either OES genuine for 1000$ or way too much for OEM.

So what did you do? i could use all the help and advice i could get.
I want to make it official and say YES they are different and yes a good mechanic can make it fit. I had my 98 mbc swapped out a while back but my mechanic had to "modify" the plug. I picked up a 01+ because I didn't want another one with the defect that made it sound like there were baby eagles screaming from under my hood and all 98's were sure to have a ton of miles.
I also get the VSC lights on every once in a while. I can pump the brakes to make them go off. (doesnt throw a CEL) He said that it did that because the sensors are a little different between years. He said something about slight pressure differences iirc. But I ain't about to go spend another 500-$700 on a used one when I've been using this one for 3 years already without issue other than the lights. (just trying to milk a few more years out of it)
My mechanic used to be a master tech at McGrath in Chicago and started his own repair shop specializing in Toyota/Lexus. Sad to leave Chicago cause it's harder finding good mechanics where i'm at now. heh
Just FYI on my experience. I don't know the modifications he had to make but I can give you his number if you want. He's a pretty cool dude. He let me drop my car off at his house since it was a lot closer than the shop.
