Just would like to know if anybody has used the 3M Headlight product to clean out the headlight lenses. which requirers buffin an sanding? This is my first time trying to do this project. I dont want to f it up.

Start with a headlight polish such as PlastX and apply by hand with a foam pad first. Then if needed, worry about westanding and polishing (w/ buffer) later if it's that bad. My headlights had only very light oxidation and PlastX applied by hand cleared it up real well.

 

If you want to get it really clear, then you have to to a long multistage process of cleaning the lights. If its really badly pitted, then start with 600 grit and work your way to 1000 then 2000. After that, use a high speed polisher as well as plastic polishing compound. I use Novus 3 stage plastic polish and it works wonders.

 

Thanks I ended up buying the 3M product at the auto store. I did the elbow buffing with PlastX. an there is a haze still there. after I'm done. so the next thing top do is buffing with a drill an pad that cleaned them up a bit but the haze is still there. so thats why i'm going to try an sand them as Jeff an Mr jokster said. I am just a little worry I do this right. lmao. but there is trial an error. which i hope the trial goes good. I will take some pictures post the before an after.

 

do your headlights leak? if so the inside is gonna be nasty too so no matter how much you polish the outside, theyre not gonna be perfect until you take them apart, clean them, and re-seal them. i dont know if thats an easy thing to do on GS's though. ive been meaning to give it a try on mine because mine leak bad and it has left a residue on the inside.
