Humming noise when starting up...?
I let my roommate take my car to PHX since his brother and sister were in a bad accident and he didn't believe his Honda would make it. Upon return there are two issues (which I do not blame on him, just the trip itself):
1. When I start the car, there's a humming noise which sounds like a power steering pump with low fluid. Fluid is where it needs to be, sound is rpm dependent, but will go away after ~2.5kish rpms. After driving a little bit it goes away as well. Could the power steering pump just go bad?
2. He [roommate] said that on the way back, the car had the VSC and other assorted lights come on. This has happened once to me, but was during the winter in an ice storm, so I figured the TB was just frozen a little bit. Once I warmed up the car and reset the ECU, I haven't seen the issue since. Expensive thing to fix?
I appreciate any help!

Will the ECU store previous codes even without a check engine light? There's no lights on now and he was talking as if it happened randomly, turn car off/on and everything was fine.
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp
EDIT: I should add that this is possible with "better" scan tools. Most Generic/Global OBDII scan tools will not pull up these options.
