Default Is my 98 GS400 supposed to have this?

I am just curious, the CD changer looks like this

the one in the owners manual looks nothing like this. I realized that today when I finally looked at it.
and I know the one in the manual looks like the one in my old LS and my father's and everyone else with an LS.

it also looks like the head unit is a 01-05 pioneer unit...

did the previous owner have to change the head unit in order for the CD changer to work? or vice versa?
I have no clue as to why it was changed. as far as im concerned, he wanted it to look like an
01-05 gs but didnt know he would go as far as changing the cd changer and head unit

I have a 98 GS4 as well, the picture of the changer is a little close, but it looks like the one I have in my car, and the headunit is like the one my car came with.
