Default Tranny/Fuel Pump - help appreciated

2001 GS 430. Car doesn't want to go into D, will go into 3rd then I upshift once moving - tranny shop says gear selector gets confused and "thinks it is in N". Not too worried about this as I am in the Tranny parts business.

Bigger issue - getting a weaning sound from rear of car, car is also surging after delay once gas is hit....Fuel Pump/Screen/Filter, right? Any thoughts on this being the issue and has anyone had same problem? Cost to repair?

Thanks for any feedback. I had a 93 400E, forum littered w/ "issues", nice that this forum is mostly about mods.

Flush the trans with correct Toyota fluid ( type 4 not dex 3 )

Check codes via scanner...stock trans wont up shift until warm, you could have a faulty temp sensor try a flush first

This could be a number of things dust shield rub is common for rear

Throttle body is known to get sticky, fuel filter is a million mile type you can change easily but rarely is this a cause of fault on any Toyota, yes it is in the tank part of fuel pump housing.

I agree with Jason. Sounds like a throttle body issue. Remember it is electronically controlled...
