Default Compliments about your GS, let's here yours!

This week was truly an amazing week. It was one compliment after another regarding my car. I am definitely not accustomed to hearing compliments about my ride.

Today: The Security guard at the company I work for actually stops me! He never stoped me before, so I am thinking it’s because my parking pass expired or something. He just stops me to say, that I have the nicest looking car in the parking lot. The parking fills up daily with over 700 cars with everything from Jags, Benz’s, BMW’s to the everyday commute car.

Yesterday: I went to get my car washed, where they do everything from cleaning the inside to doing the wheels. It seemed like guys were fighting over who can clean the car. Than I overhear a couple saying as my car was coming out, that this was such a beautiful car and it must have been a 2002 model. Guys, my car is a 1998, but who am I to correct them.

Yesterday: After getting the car cleaned, I am stopped at TL and an infinity G20 rolls up next to me with these 2 girls. One of the girls roll’s down her window and says to me “Nice car, I love the color” My car is spectra blue. I just wish she was better looking, that would have truly made my day.

Monday: I was in Manhattan for a meeting. I ended up parking my car in a parking garage near Time Square. When I had to go and pick it up, there was a huge line forming as one of the Broadway shows just ended. Luckily, I was in the beginning of the line. When the valet brought out my car, I felt like every one in line was staring at me. The valet turned on my HID’s just as he was bringing it around. I felt that the valet was going the extra step to make me feel like a big guy by turning on my HID and yellow fogs as he pulled up in front of the line. As he kept the door opened for me, he says in a loud voice “This is a really nice car” You know I just had to hook him up, so I gave him a $20 bill. At that moment, I actually felt like a celebrity in my very own GS400. Definitely an AWESOME experience and one hell of a week!

Sometimes I get compliments - then think, hey maybe that's NOT a good thing. Case example:

I went to a really nice steak house in Charlotte where there is NO parking, so I used the valet. When they return my car, the valet says "the guy who parked your car told me it was faster than any GS400 or 430 he's driven, and I agree. What the all have you done to it?"

After I finish being all proud about my car and have driven away, I start thinking HEY - those bastards shouldn't be driving my car that fast! I typically dont' valet when I can help it and always set the tripometer to check mileage... sometimes you just can't help it. Oh well

Superlex, I use to be a valet back when I was in high school to make some extra cash. So, I have a soft spot for valets and know the pain that these go through just to make a few extra bucks. I still remember all the people that tipped me $10 or more. One guy gave me over $100 bucks. He was so freakin drunk. He says to me I will give you all the money in my wallet if you go and get my car first. There was a huge line forming with only 4 guys working and the cars were parked almost 1/4 mile away. He had the first generation M3 with the big rear wing and it was red, 5-speed with black interior. I brought the car to him and he truly gave me everything in his wallet plus all the change in his pocket.

....Heard at SRT last Nov.....

Dude! Your car is so clean!? Do you drive it?!

That's more of a compliment to my personal Type-A-edness; wait, I think its a compliment.

I get good looks while driving, waves, and an occastional compliment while at the gas station, from younger people to grown men. Whenver I go to the dealer, I get treated well with compliments too.

For me, I don't ever valet - it'd be like letting someone "park" my girlfriend. <soup ****> no park for you! </soup ****>

DrewGS4, I have to agree with you on the Blue. A perfectly clean Spectra Blue, with a great finish, in clear bright sunshine, is really something amazing. I like the yellow fogs too.

Of course, I might be biased.

Hey Dave, I agree with you. Talking from experience you can't trust valet guys. I hate to admit it, but I test drove some nice cars when I was a valet. My GF at the time use to come and visit me at the places I was valeting just to kill time. She wanted to learn how to drive stick. I taught her alright, on some customer’s brand new honda 5-speed accord.

I was at a private going away party for some PWC partner in 2000. some girl I meet there was chit chatting how she thinks every "snob" wants to impress a girl with his bimmer.
After a long night I walked her to her car...it happened to be a gs300, then she saw me getting it to my car, pulled up next to me and said "I knew you had nice taste." ...and invited me over to her place for the after party, party

I like the attention my car draws, especially from all you GS4 guys (LOL!!) and the 5 and 7 series Beemer guys. But, I think the best compliment I received happened Tuesday as I was driving home from installing my Aristo center tail piece.

I was at a stop light and I see a strobe going off. So I'm looking for a cop around me, but don't see one.

I start driving and two guys in a Titanium IS300 pull along side and the passenger points a camera out the window and I see the same strobe! Then they pull up ahead of me and the guy leans out of the window to shoot the front of the car which he does...right as they run into the car ahead of them which was stopped at a light!!!

Sucks to be them when they tell the guy they hit why it happened!

R - how about uploading some pics into the gallery if you haven't already. I'd love to see some up close and interior pics of your GS!

all of you here have body kit right? I think mostly the body kit and rims on a Lexus make I stand out from the crown. too bad, my car has dark tint or else i will be standing out too ho ho ho. (BTW, i notice there are not may GS4 in Austin, espesially ones w/ bodykit)

Just wish if I get 1 penny everytime someone staire at my car, maybe I can get free gas every week from that money.

Note to self, next mod is a donation box hanging on the side of the car for those you like to look at my car. ha ha ha.

I just love to drive by UT campus, I take longer route just for it. Do I sound pathetic? that what my gf told me

Thumbs up Props

I get many compliments on my 99 GS around town. I live in the La Jolla area in San Diego and always get looks. This is not your typical middle income city, we are talking million dollar homes guys. There is a $32 million pad here, so you get the idea. My car is not dropped or has any wheels yet either. It is stock with a few minor mods(tint, sound, grille, 2001 dash), and das it.... But I have it detailed with clay wax every 3 months and man does it shine. It is satisfying to know that people notice your car in a positive way. They always ask me if it is a 2002. Even my brother-in-law who owns a '02 740i, a '91 Diablo, and a '02 Excursion to name a few digs my car. That is cool..

When you leave your beautiful car in one of those parking garages in NYC, you should be paranoid. Whenever I drive into one a whole bunch of guys just sitting around, eyeball the car and you can see they want to do something to your car.

Last time I was in a NYC garage I got my car back with the rear head seats up and someone messing with my navigation unit.

Sucks!

I hear you clive....sometimes you just wish you has a junk car on the side, like a Ford Taurus to use on days like this, but that would defeat the purpose or driving a very nice car too.

You can't win either way.

Hey Lex,

Funny you mention that, that always seems to happen to me as well. I rarely take my GS in NYC cause the roads are a nightmare. When I do have to be in the city, I usually steal my brother's TL, with nav. Their's big greasy finger prints all over the nav screen and the passenger side seat is always reclined back. WTF are these guys doing in the car. I'm seriously thinking of hiding one of those little x-cams catching them on tape. Its like a no win situation when parking in NYC. Park on the streets and the damm things gets towed, cost $250 CASH ONLY just to get it out, plus $65 parking ticket. I must already be out over a 1k for parking on the streets. I could have spent that money on getting a new TC installed by MOE, which by the way is my next mod. I have to give credit to DEXTER for his superb rightup on the TC and his experiences with SRT and MOE.
