Just did it today. Holy crap, what a pain in the ****! My hands are all scratched up and bleeding, I swear, I'd rather to a timing belt job that this. Feeding the cable through the firewall was hell, especially with my huge hands.

Did mine this weekend, I even changed the latch... It wasn't as bad as I thought, I got a bit annoyed when I broke a couple of those plastic rivits... But I replaced them with plastic ties for now... When I drop it off to the shop, I will have the guy replace them... These instructions were very helpful... Keep in mind, get some help, You need two people, especially when you trying to fish the cable through the firewall, you need someone to pull it in for you... Thanks for the help... if anyone still needs the part number, it's Lexus OEM Hood Lock Control Cable Assy 53630-30250 (for a 2001 GS430). Hit me up on a PM if you need it for another car. I got link in FL, this guy got some decent prices... Let me know!

My cable has been out the last 3 years. The way I get it to close each time is......

...follow the cable from the hood latch to where it takes a 90 degree turn toward the windshield. In that area you can get your hands on the cable and give it a couple tugs, tugging at the hood latch. This frees up the cable and hood latch and works for me every time.

Guys, has anyone had the hood latch go bad while the hood was shut? I am unable to open my hood and the battery is dead so I need to get it open ASAP.
