Default Check Engine Light - How to get code?

My check engine light came on earlier this week. How do I find out the code?

Is the best way to go to Autozone and have them pull it? Any DIY at home pics/instructions?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There is no manual code retrieval procedure for the 2nd Gen GS. I suggest purchasing yourself a OBDII Scan tool. They can be had super cheap nowadays at most auto part stores and even cheaper online.

The free scan at Autozone is the cheapest route but I prefer to keep a scanner handy at home that way I am not at the mercy of Autozone's business hours and tool availability.

Hey -did you ever get your check engine light diagnosed? I own a '01 GS430 (97K miles) and the check engine light just came on today. I don't need this crap right now - should I just head to Auto Zone?

Either buy a OBDII scanner or Autozone for free.
