my GS400 is for sale for the same price and has a great maintenance record.
starter at dealer? check
timing belt? check
ball joint? check AND upper ball joint + tie rod ends replaced also
and etc

Mine has a lot more miles but maintenance is up to date. it's not the mileage that matters, it's HOW those miles were driven. I've seen a BMW with 50k miles...and the owner NEVER did an oil change. Conversely, my Acura Legend had 225k miles and was running strong till I sold it with basic preventative maintenance.

smaller accidents sometimes (usually?) won't show up on carfax. Look for stickers, caution stickers, VIN tag, etc.

I hate to be a buzzkill but if you think you might not be able to afford it, then you probably can't. things always come up unexpectedly.

I would suggest if your really serious about the car have a pre-purchase inspection done by a Lexus dealership in the area or an independent shop that you trust. If the car doesn't come out good after that then move on....

Assuming that none of the high mileage maintenace has been done I would set aside a 1-2K float to cover any maintenance items over the next 10,000 miles. If you live in Northern VA there are a few independent shops that people on this site have recommended which would save you some money on the maintenance items over the dealer.

That's a killer price. It's built like a tank ,do the fluids etc and it's cheaper than a Beamer or Mercedes. I would get the vin number and go to lexus.com, join and then run the vin and you can see if the PO ( prevoius owner) had any major stuff done to it. If not have a good mech check it out and go for it! These are GREAT cars!
