Default How loud is illegal?

Do you guys know what the max dB is to be legal in the state of California?

I'm looking at the exhaust systems that would produce 101 ~ 103 dB at 4000+RPM. Personally, I don't think they are legal. Thanks for your help.

I'll tell you this straight up. Any after market exhaust WILL GET A TICKET no matter how loud it is. I just got a ticket for exhaust and I wasn't reving the engine at all. She saw 4 guys smiling and having a good time and decided to give me a ticket along with blue wedge bulbs and no front plate. I Tried arguing with her about harleys being so Facking loud. She told me.....go let the sherrif decide if its too loud. In short....get what exhaust you want because your going to get a ticket either way.

I was pulled over for speeding once and the officer said my exhaust is illegal. I told him that it is under the 95 dB legal limit and he asked me to rev it. I did and since my car was still cold it wasn't too loud. He then said ok it does sound legal and let me go.
