Often Acorn and Ball Seat are used interchangeably. Generally they mean the same lug nut. I'm not sure about this, but I believe acorn was just adopted as a description of a ball seat lug nut by some or many.

Here is the terms Tire Rack uses when describing lug nut seat type.
